ive had 3 systems using this motherboard, and from my personal experiance, i would recommend it for anyone staying with the 939 boards

one with a 165opty....one with a 170 opty..and one with a 4400+ all very stable, all overclocked very well..... be sure to go to the first few pages 20-30+ i think it was, where people had the board and look for the recommended bios settings......they are a must setting for stable high overclocks

thx for the input. you obviously have experience using this board...

and at the sake of sounding like a noob (and not wanting to read 70 pages), wtf is the 'warm boot' issue ?

Haven't kept myself abreast this thread, can anyone who recently ordered this mobo tell us what revision is it now? Last I heard it was rev. 1.01G or 1.02G, whichever it was...just wonder if there is a rev. 2.0 or not. Thanks...

To the best of my knowledge there was never a Rev2 of the A8N32 released.
IIRC the only difference between the 1.01 and the 1.02 was the cmos jumper
position on the board and possibly different clips on the PCI-E slots.
I believe it was the 1.02 which seemed to run a bit hotter then the 1.01.

I have been smoking right along at 3GHz on a Rev 1.01 for quite a good long time.

When did you buy your board? And are you sure yours is not rev. 1.01G? Going back to reread page 62, a user confirmed there was a rev. 1.01G, but nobody said anything about a rev. 1.02, so I'm not sure if there is even one to date.

My bad on the 1.01, 1.01G, and 1.02 revs. confusion.
It has indeed been a long time since I read through this entire thread.

My board was purchased 5/11/2006 4:30:13 PM from NewEgg.
It is indeed a plain rev 1.01. This is clearly silkscreened on the mobo.
    No G here.

need to FINALLY make the jump to PCI-E and wondering which board to go with...
Well I did end up buying it over a month ago. It's a good board, overclocks well . Only problem I've had with it is warm boot problem

Anyone tried the 1403 bios yet? I want to test it now, but I'm not sure if it works ok . Can't find it at ASUS' home page...

i think DFI's OC better then asus. And according to many tests performed on 16x dual vs 8x dual, very little gain was given on having dual 16x.

    DFI - Expert

But to be honest, a newbie is better off with an asus. The Expert was a serious pain in the butt to get going with high voltage ram. ie. OCZ's

The problem with the EXPERT, is when new, the board likes to start voltage on DIMMs at 2.6v OCZ's require you start voltage at 2.7 so you run into a problem when loading 2 sticks. This is easily fixable by using a single ram in one slot, but i find it annoying to do this EVERY time you flash or reset your bios.

But yes, i think DFI's clock the best, and the highest. But ASUS is a trouble free route for you to go with.

    Glad to find you

    Hi there,
My A8N32-SLI has arrived.I have a Opteron 165 and a pair of OCZ Platinum Elite Edition PC4800.I'm about to o/c the Opteron @2.7Ghz(300*9).
Can i go passive with the Scythe Ninja+ rev.B?
My case is Antec Solo with Seasonic S12 430W and only a 12 Nexus fan in the back.
Or should i go for an Thermalright Xp120 with 12 Nexus fan?
    What do you think?

All i can say is that this mobo, is kind of psycho and hot ..very hot...i switched to this from the Premium and she run at least 5-6 oC more that the Premium did..even with water it looks not enough on me..(when i enable the overvoltage..but also without it..is much hotter..)
I have reαd all the thread and i figure out that it needs time ...but honnestly after 5 days with this mobo i feel no upgrade from the Premium and speaking by numbers take a look at this review-results (thanks to the guy ,who posted the link some pages before..)
    ..keep trying..don't give up..

I like the Thermalright SI-120's performance on the A8N32, simply because the downward-facing fan gets plenty of airflow to the passive heatpipe chipset cooler. I ran the Zalman 9500 on it for a while, and the cpu temp was as low as the SI-120, but the chipset temps were higher. Went back to the SI-120 and chipset temps are 5c or more lower.

Thermalright now has their SI-128, which I would probably have used on this build (and others) if they had been available when I purchased the SI-120's.

If you have watercooling you don't have airflow and you need the optional fan mounted. This motherboard uses gravity as they say here...so you will need something exhaust. Also if you have a case that orient the motherboard horizontally or upside down is not good.

AsusLover IMHO you should go for the Scythe Ninja fanless. With 2*12 fan i think you have enough airflow in the Antec Solo case.Does anyone think something else?

    Thanks,
I have done all this already...i have put also the radiator out from the case with 2fans ( push from inside the case and pull from the outside..) plus the extra Asus fan...so the mobo temp got a little better Temp's (34-35C) ...
BTW..speaking about gravity...i don't think that there is point on that...installing a mobo on an a normal pc case there is only 1 way to do it...
I believe on this mobo and i ll continue trying fix all,as it should..

Anyone knows how I get cpu/14 memory divider with this mobo? The funny thing is, however, that when I pass 300mhz HTT the divider goes from cpu/15 to cpu/14 without me changing anything. That is using the 133mhz divider. Any advice on how I can get cpu/14 when I'm under HTT 300mhz as well? I really want to use 280x10 as my 24/7 setup, but the gap from 133mhz to 166mhz divider is huge. From roughly 186mhz to 233mhz. 233mhz isn't stable whatsoever, and I don't want to run at 186mhz, which is below stock speed. cpu/14 gives me 200mhz spot on

So I downloaded the 1303 BIOS from the Global link since the USA link didn't work. I was wondering, how do I go about flashing my BIOS?

I have the Asus Update thing installed. I do not have a floppy. Do I just select update from file (the 1303.ROM) and proceed like that with Asus Update? Is there any CMOS clearing I have to do?

    Thanks.

Right now my board is on the 1103 BIOS that it came with. For some reason though, CPUZ only sees 1 core and 1 thread. I have the Dual Core Optimizer installed. CnC is diabled.

Just download the the bios run asus update and select the file and Flash (and hope there isn't a power cut) CMOS clearing isnt needed. reboot enter bios check your settings

Anybody got the vdimm mod for the board? Or is the memory powered by the 3.3v rail?
