I couldn't even get 400 fsb stable. Consider yourself quite lucky as not all systems can hit what you have (if fact I'll go as far as saying MOST will not do it).

any performance increase when changing the bios settings from IDE to ACHI or APCH or whatever the hell it is?
I can comment on this as I have done it. If you are not running in RAID or your SATA hard drive does not have the NCQ feature, then there is no performance benefit or difference.

How HOT does the North Bridge get?

As I have posted already a few times, I have a PHW DH right now, and with the FSB set to 380, I get a wicked hot North Bridge temp. (Especially given that I have to pump up the MCH to 1.75 to achieve this)

I have an aftermarket north bridge heatsink, and the real question is, how does the heat in the P5B north bridge compare to that of the P5W?

Also, does the BIOS give me diff temp reading for north and south bridge?

As I said before, all I want is to run at 4.0 GHZ with my 6700, so thats only 400 FSB.. (Although i saw on this thread that 401 is better because of wierdness)

What are some of your guys NB and SB voltages set to on your 400+ FSB settups?

hello, well i have a p5b delx and a 6300 L2, and well ive seen all over clocks and all but im rather happy at 1:1 fsb @400mhz, so at 2.8ghz im a happy camper =). now the problem is that since ive been reading a lot and tuning my rig, i did notice, that if u overclock the fsb and leave the v.core voltage at auto it can get into very high voltages (1.5 etc) now i dint like that so i managed to make my rig stable @2.8 with a 1.35 on the v.core. now my question is.. will the nb sb voltages if set to auto would change to very high voltages like it did on the vcore? if so, i would really like some help on determing the right voltages for my rig. Another thing i would like to know, what is the base voltages for the nb, sb and the vhcm, i know for the proc is 1.35max and for my memory is 1.9

    thanks for your help.

yes set to auto they'll rise. unfortunately in the ds3 there's no baseline setting for some stupid reason so the best you can do is +0.1v

Hi, thanks for the fast reply!
    i dont have a DS3 i have a Asus P5B Deluxe.

ps: is there any program i can use to see these kind of voltages (sb, nb ect)? cuz ive tired asus probe 2, speedfan. and no go..i only get the vcore, +3.3, +5, +12, CPU, MB readings.

fcg, or anyone else, I didn't want to start a new thread so I figured I'd ask the question here.

fcg, I noticed you made a picture in another post showing that 1:1, 4:5, 2:3 on the 1066 strap but 3:5 and 1:2 from 800 strap. I was wondering if you knew of the dividers available in the 1333 strap?

    OEM vs. Retail

Should getting an OEM P5B Deluxe make any difference on the board itself?

I know that all the extra cabling etc. is not there, but if the board is inherently different, that will piss me off.

Board itself is no difference. 100% identical.

I've recently OC-ed my rig to 2.8Ghz and let it dual orthos over night..
    The E6400 was running @ 2800Mhz and the Kingston DDR800 wich are default rated @ 5 - 5 - 5 - 18 @ 1.8v were running 4 4 4 10 1.9v DDR800 1:1 .. i let it run for about 8 hours dual orthos .. everything was fine..
After i stoped it i've decided to see if it can get some more.. (Note : the vcore was 1.325v manually set .. and the vmem 1.9v .. while the others on auto) I rised to about 3.2Ghz (400x8) and kept the ram settings unchanged.. 1:1 .. it ran dual orthos for about 30 mins again.. and at some point it died.. some nasty pop sound camed out of the mobo.. and a burnt smell.. I sent the mobo back and they replaced it without any comments.. my question is .. Did those auto settings in voltages pump too much voltage in the north bridge? since the only thing that died was the mobo.. and i have the feeling that while i was rising the freq in windows .. the mobo kept upping the voltages.. cand any 1 explain this ?

I'll soon be on board with the P5B Vista edition. All solid state capacitors! hope it OC's as well as the others.

I was reading the data from intel on 965 chipsets and it says the max voltage for the NB is 1.375 !?!? How well does the chipset take xtra volts and what should my "real" max be?

Don't ever use auto voltages when overclocking on the chipset! Asus is insane, it's like they wanted boards to fry. Auto seems to ramp them to their highest values when overclocking.

Lowest settings on the chipset voltages are good for me up to 410FSB. I can't get past 420 because of my RAM...

So basicly that's the reason wich made it "go in flames" .. leaving those on auto.. right?

Probably, you would think Asus knew what they were doing with auto. Possibly the board was defective and the voltage tipped it over the edge.

    PCI-E X1 issue continued

So I've read most of these posts, and found I was also having the X1 issue with my PCI-E and didn't even know it. I tried several suggestions and this is what worked.

Some say, don't go over 1.55V on the NB and some say they can't go even that high before they see the issue.

I think it is all dependent on the type of card you have?

I have the Sapphire Radeon X1950XT 256 and I did the following tests.

My PCI-E frequency is at 101, NB Vcore I tried at both 1.55V and 1.45V, in which case, they both worked to give me 16X pci-e in cpu-z.

If you're seeing the X1 in your cpu-z, reboot, set the NBvcore from auto, to 1.45, turn off your PC, turn off the PSU, wait a few seconds, then turn your PC back on. If still you have the X1 issue, then do the same steps but try 1.55V on the NB and so on.

    Hope this helps.

FWIW, I was seeing x1 at first too. I bumped up to 1.55v from 1.25v and it went right up to x16. Ever since, I've been back down at 1.25v and it's maintaining x16 now.

Well through three successive voltage jumps I can't seem to penetrate 8 x 480 (3840Mhz) on my e6400. This is while load temps are at 64c on air. The voltages jumps have been 1.51 to 1.52 to 1.53. Anyone want to offer any advice? Here are the settings...

    Advanced Tab
    PCI Express Frequency - 115
    PCI Clock Synch – 33.33Mhz
    Spread Spectrum – Disabled
    Memory Voltage – 2.25
    FSB Termination Voltage – 1.4
    Northbridge Vcore – 1.45
    SB Vcore – 1.6
    ICH Chipset Voltage – 1.215

    CPU Config Tab
    C1E Support – Disabled
Max CPUID Value Limit – Disabled
    Vanderpool – Disabled
    CPU TM function – Enabled
    Execute Disable Bit – Enabled
    PECI – Disabled

    Memory Tab
Ram is not being stressed, I have PC8000
However, Static Read is Disabled and Peg Port Config is as follows

    PEG force x1 – Disabled
    PEG Link Mode – Auto
    Asus CGI – Disabled

Having CPU TM and Execute enabled helped me gain a few Mhz in short orthos runs
