I wasn't aware the QX6700 was going to see a price drop. If K10 performance isn't overwhelmingly better than Kentsfield I think a QX6700 will be in my Crysis machine later this year.

Sounds like great news today but wait and see how great these CPUs will be in Q3, i doubt it will be very interesting to spend money on these at the time. Could be nice for putting a Q6400 or Xeon3210 in wifes rig or something, for main rig Conroe will be old and boring stuff. If people were to buy CPUs "because they are so very cheap now" then why not go out and buy Pentium D or X2 today? Becuase those are boring processors, just like Conroe will be by the end of the year... Already in Q3 Conroe will start to take the place held by X2 today, how interesting will it be to buy one then?

either way you have great performance.

I'm an AMD fanboy, but I tend to buy the highest performing product from the company that does not hold the performance crown... If I was building this fall, I'd probably look at AMD's prices and cry and get a q6600 and oc the hell out of it.

    4gb kits...

I still think you all are jumping the gun on that one.

As long as you don't compromise on speed, you can never have too much RAM Vista and game releases this year WILL make use of 4GB, it's natural evolution.

So has Intel decided to drop Q6400 from its lineup?

i only pray on my bare knees this news is true..I'm preparing to buy me a new rig around may,but if this is all true,i'm delaying it to the 2nd half of 2007...

What i don't understand is why a E6850 is becoming almost as cheap as a E6600?Why is that?

It's 25% (3 vs 2.4) faster in the same price bracket over a year between release..

I'm loving these price drops... but looking at that chart this news was leaked to soon and judging that it is in Q3 and just before the Intels new lineup is due it is pretty normal I guess

You know what? Even if K10 is competitive with the predicted C2D/C2Q price drops (and this means nothing unless retailers abide by them) along with the performance vs P4 still performs very will in game & program currently in the market. As far as DX10 programs go, there are none as of yet. Also, do to the nature of DX10 games it will be more heavily dependant on the GPU (if we ever see one).

Lets say that K10 beats C2D, the only true bragging rights one can have is through benchmarking. This isn't the day of P4 any more where optimum performance was achieved after you OC'd it. Nor will it ever be like the P4 to C2D performance gains were the majority of consumers will benefit from C2D/C2Q use from a P4 (people who care less about benchmarking and heavy OC'ing). You can run your programs and games now a days with a C2D, without having to OC and, you still achieve optimum performance (coupled with a decent gpu).

Games like Fear, BF2, Quake 4 and Company of Heroes all can run at optimal settings (again with a decent GPU) with a C2D, now. So anything that can possibly can do better would still be limited to consumers based on cost, IMO. This is were the Intel price cuts may outshine K10's performance gains IMO. What it all boils down to is simple, is it worth paying $xxx.xx for a new CPU, MB and possibly Ram for a few FPS increase? Also, how will DDR3 factor into this equation on both sides of the fence? I am not sure, but once the DDR3 ram is finally supported (by MB's) and released to the public, will this change performance ratio? Only time will tell at this point.

But apparantly there's a huge margin for the producer, otherwise a price drop like that would become like pushing Xbox360's

If there is any truth in this, and god I hope so, they must be scared less for K10.

It's really pointless to think this way, AMD is in financial trouble as it is and the release of a CPU(s) (be it better or not) will not turn this problem around. It's funny how some down play this less then what it is (lets not forget the $2.5 billion term loan from Morgan Stanley). What will help AMD is to see them broaden their branches in other vital markets (as online news reported during the ATI merger some time ago).

Well it looks like Intel is looking for some heads.

Lets put this into perspective. Amd states that the ramp for k10 will be somewhat slow. Which will probably mean two things, shortages and high prices (high prices from the shortages of course).

Intel may get more marketshare by doing this. Cd2 a good performer in every way (heat/power and efficiency). Make no mistake Intel is looking for blood.

, i was hoping for C2D price's cut, but this is amazing... look at those prices !
Now waiting for ATI to bring some good competition... I wont be buying a GPU 2x the price of a High End CPU (maybe 3 times the price).
    Excuse me for my English

no joke, Intel already cut 631 prices early (like they said they would)
    q6400 will not be released
Price cuts should be on time (as long as thing go as planned) and next gen intel chips don;t hit any snags.
I've got a e4300 and will be buying another mobo and e4400. Then upgrade both sytems to q6600 (q3) and dump the other chips on ebay.

I saw your 700W+ thread. I didn't think that was actually possible! Man you should post that one @ Spcr and see what what people say just for a laugh. "Well guys it's almost green, kinda.."

Question: How high does it clock on 1.1V and what does it pull in W while in idle at this Vcore? I'm thinking EIST at 1.1 and 1.325V like I do with my 6600 (see sign.).
