How come you can take for granted this information? Intel never reviles price cuts in this long future, especially of this magnitude!

I guess when we wish something so badly like 3 GHz C2D for 266 USD, we disconnect common sense!
if it was the inq i wouldnt think anything of it, but its from hkepc so it Might be true, ya they do seem really out of this world but who knows Intel probably knows what K10 can do and this might be thier responce....at least we can dream until is confirmed or denied

Man, us consumers really benefit from this one! This news is so good that it almost makes me want to prospectively plan a new build by the end of this year...almost...heh, but not quite.

i dunno, if nvidia do have a chipst out for K8L by then, i dont think ill get Q6600 at Q3

as u can see only good the SLI + quad core overclocking board is EVGA 680i A1, so i dunno ill see what happens b4 i made my decision, but K8L better put up a good fight otherwise they r doomed ...

Quads make CRAZY heat, nevermind it uses 530 watts just in ORTHOS! That is 100+ more watts than a 1.6v L628B xeon 3060!

after 60 days, yes, but there was s pretty bad markup for a while, around 100$ per CPU.

right now it's below MSRP in most places though.

folding

but if quad is cheap, why not go for it, if the technology is out and about, software developers are more inclined to put resources into it, so its all good.

theres nothing unbelievable here, remember by using a multi die package rather than a true quad core, intels yields for quad cores are exactly the same as for dual cores.

I wouldn't be suprised if we see even cheaper chips using 2x allendales released for the OEM market. Intel can still make a profit selling cheap quad cores at the prices AMD will have to sell their k10 dual cores for to break even - the question is whether intel shareholders would allow intel to get by on lower margins?

Hmmmm looks to me like INTEL know exactly how their cpu's are gonna perform once k10 hits. 50% OFF QUAD-CORES just before k10's release??? I reckon INTEL have seen those elusive benchmark scores we're all lookin' for.

On the plus side though, atleast more people will be able to afford them now.

I think Intel want AMD to be destroyed and never come back, at any cost.
It can happen..and that day is a bad day.

LOL with these prices Intel could have skiped dual cores and ya that is a good point about yeilds on multy die over the native quad design....on another note wonder is if this has anything to do with the other thread in the news about AMD wanting 30% market at any cost

A reminder:

Core 2 Duo @ 2.93 GHz (they call him extreme edition) costs 999 USD!

So is there any reason for Core 2 Duo @ 3 GHz to cost 266 USD three or four months form now?

so does the qx6700. The x6800 is essentially a legacy product. With the quad cores priced higher than the duals, there are still two price brackets open, possibly for 2.93 and 3.2 ghz quad cores. (possibly 2.93 ghz q6800 and 3.33 1333fsb XE?)

Going from all the info regarding prices, and indeed the summary wombat posted, should we be expecting a qx6800 in Q2 and a qx6900/6950 in Q3?
