And now the Q6700 is rumored to be at this price. I hope they didn't made a glitch .
Difference is probably in timing - Q6600 will got to $530 on April 22nd, then to $266 at some point in H2/2007.

Certainly makes me want to sell my E6600 while it's still at its current price, then go for a Q6600 later this year.

Too bad I'd have to use a Celeron 326 in the mean time.

Q3, this might be so ppl dont buy K10 if it out sooner then that so someone spread this information.
But jesus the prices on CPUs before Conroe hit the street was skyhigh.
They must have made awful lots of money those days.
Now they down to the prices were you normally get a crap cpu for office computers but instead almost get the top of the line cpu.
Its amazing and we have to thank Intel for that.
    Everything extra is bad!

good lord that is cheap, i didnt wanna jump to quad-core until 45nm. But those prices are very appealling.

AMD better come with a compelling reason for me to swap out my chip and board and probably my cooler instead of just staying Intel and going quad.
    That's the biz, sweetheart.

nice move on intel, also this should mean that future yorkfield cpus will come quite a bit faster than kents, to justify the higher price. It should also mean that 45nm quads will simply phase out kents and assume their position in price for the best buy option at 266 USD - like the E6600 was when it was released.
AMD better release their quads cheap as well, because it will be hard to sell them at a premium over intel or if they will only have 2 models that they release for the top segment - cause be sure that price for price (the real cpu comparison for buyers) intel will make damn sure they can compete with AMD

At that price, I'll get a Q6600 and a E6850 and just switch em out whenever I need quad core (encoding) or higher clocks(gaming).

Joking aside, those prices really bring me off the fence from even thinking about upgrading to K10. Unless the performance/price is out of this world.

Unless I can upgrade to K10 (CPU+Mobo) for less than $300.

Yes, this makes me feel so much better. I can see it now, quad-core at 3.6GHz crunching away for WCG for the same it would cost for dual-core at 4GHz now. Beautiful, too bad it is 6-9 months away

There's no glitch, you just didn't read it correctly. One price is 2nd quarter and the other is 3rd quarter.

I can't believe that no one didn't take a second to question is there any real truth in this information about this unbelievable price cut??

How come you can take for granted this information? Intel never reviles price cuts in this long future, especially of this magnitude!

I guess when we wish something so badly like 3 GHz C2D for 266 USD, we disconnect common sense!

it probably does have something to do with amd releasing its k10, but i bet it also has something to do with intel releasing its penryn. i know that its only supposed to be on the server side this year, but i wouldnt put it past them to see some higher clocked quads for the desktop. I wouldnt look to see a $300 quad from amd anytime soon. their native quad design is going to keep that price high for a while, because of how hard it will be to make. if they have one bad core, the whole thing is blown out the ass. k10 should be faster, but producing them for amd will be a challenge.

either way, that q6600 is looking like a bargan basement performance chip right now. nice thing is, i can throw it in my current motherboard.

ewwwwww I don't like those new 1333FSB proc's its like paying for a crappier multi.
    Q6600 looks so tempting.

Wow seeing how intel is trying to fend of K10 makes me really wonder how good K10 will be.

    price wars

that seems too nice, AMD was always with best preformance/price ratio (well till conroe) but i seriously doubt that they can beat that price cut so i guess there will be many of us staying with intel even if k10 owns

    1.) Some did in fact.
2.) Never? Well actually, they do. C2D prices were out long before they were on
the market. Other price drops were also out, and they also were accurate. The
april 22 price cuts (& new models) were out last year.

But I agree. Might even be a typo (maybe $366? Still a big drop, but not as
    unreasonably drastic).
