and i guess i've just seen too many chips in the 200 range that clock surprisingly well to really be in support of the lower batch number = better oc'er..

Actually, if you're talking about dual cores in the 200 range, then you'd be correct as IIRC, the number of dual core cpu's able to be cut from a single wafer tops out ~200....so the early 200's would be somewhat comparable to the lower numbered cpus......
