    What Intel Flex Memory Technology? Can I run 3x1GB module on Dual-Channel with 965P

    Can 3x1GB module run at Dual-Channel on 965P chipset?

    I saw interesting thing in intel website :
    Intel® Flex Memory Technology
    Gives users a more flexible memory upgrade option by allowing different memory sizes to be installed while maintaining dual-channel mode/performance.

    if it be correct I will buy another 1GB module and upgrade my memory from 2x1GB to 3x1GB because according Anand Vista runs smoothly on 3GB memory or higher

    It is possible to run 2x1GB + 2x512MB and still get dual channel. This has been a quite unknown feature for a few generations of Intel Chipsets.
    (1GB + 512MB per channel)
    It is also possible to use one 1GB module together with two 512Mb modules
    (1GB in one channel, 2x512MB in the other channel)

    Other sample configurations can be found on page 16 and 17 in the link above.

    There have been boards that can run dual-channel on a single DIMM, using two halves of it, at least supposedly (never owned one).

    I highly doubt that 965x can do that on a third DIMM, though.

    According to the document, it can do Assymetric Dual Channel with 3 modules of the same size. Don't know about performance hits though...

    I understood it so, that you can use two different sized modules, and still get Dual-channel (512MB in one slot, and 1GB in the other, at the same speeds ofc)...

    On intel P965 chipset, if you don't run in dual channel (2 matching sticks or 4 matching sticks) it runs in Flex memory mode. Right now I'm running in flex memory mode with 3 512mb sticks. Performance difference is nearly nothing. Super pi 1m time goes up by less than half a second at the same FSB and same cpu speed.

    You can run 3 1GB modules and it'll run just as good. If you're benchmarking, just take the 3rd stick out if you're going for World records...

    Oh yea, the reason I'm running 3 512 sticks is that my 4th stick died and BF2 doesn't run very smooth on 1GB. At 1.5GB it runs completely smooth.
