Everest is F***** up. It gives me an idle temperature of 28 but it doesnt change with load. I have already made sure that the heatsink is well seated with adequate thermal paste. To confirm that its making good contact, I removed the CPU fan for a few seconds and it did get pretty hot to the touch showing there is good conduction between the core and the base of the heatsink. I am giving it the correct volts...Infinity boards only have one VCORE option. I know the Lan parties have the percent voltages too but I don't know what other voltages you are talking about...unless they are the VDIMM and VCHIP.Holly!!! Those are too high temps!!. Try using Everest, It reads from the cores too. Wow. Have you checked if your heatsink is very well seated and making good contact with your CPU? Have you checked you are giving it the right volts? I dunno about Infinitys mobos, they should be like my expert, so I'm guessing you have in the bios, a startup vcore option, and other 2, one is in Volts (can't remember the name) and the third is in percentages. So be very carefull on those calculations and how much voltage are you actually giving it.
Other thant, what is your Gskill memory model? DFI mobos are very picky with mem settings (at least lan partys are). Maybe you can tune them, or relax them a lot and see what happens.
I would suggest removing the IHS, but I think you should leave that for last.... I haven't seen any of those last steppings doing so bad at 2.8 ghz, and at a soo high temp as yours, so must be something else.... Check if the heatsink is well mounted, other suggestion is trying the stock heatsink (the one that comes with your Opty is not bad at all for 2.8 ghz, at least has heatpipes right?), so that way you can rule out the heatsink as being the culprit.
Other than that, I see you are using a .5 multi, try to avoid doing that, sometimes Optys "don't like" half multis...
My RAM is GBHZ DDR500 (Can't remember the exact model number, and I am at work right now). Yea it does act funny with DFI boards but I got my opty 144 to 2.97 on air 8 hours+ prime stable with the same RAM chips. I have messed around with the timings a lot but no luck.....
I was thinking of using the stock HSF. When I go home I'll see what I can do about that. My current HS is kind of a pain to install since you have to remove the mobo and tighten its bolts by hand when installing it...
All said, the core tempeatures seem inaccurate to me. At one point during dual prime I lowered the cpu fan speed and the temp shot up to 80!!!!! My cpu would have shut down or atleast given me an error in prime if that was accurate.
About the multi. I have used 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5 and 9.

.. ah well.
Ahh well, this SS is more of a futureproof purchase anyway, hoping K8L won't have an extreme coldbug.
.
@ 3.0 ghz @ 1.525 on H2O , IHS OFF 6-7c lower for each core!!
Maybe I should try removing the IHS.
