DX10 will be purchased by me when they decide to get their asses in gear and lower the power consumption. ATI or NV, i dont care but i refuse to install a 800-1000 watt psu.

As long as GPUs will not be required by servers, power consumption will continue to go up.Originally Posted by Haltech

Requirement for G80 (8800GTX), nVidia highest of all most powerful and hottest video card, is 450W.. and thats for the entire computer system, complete with top of the line CPU, memory, hard drives, etc..
Is it nVidia's fault you misunderstood?

I don't think I'll be buying an R600 or G80.
6600gt all the way.
It's hard to pass up a GTS or GTX at this point, I guess I'll succumb to the temptation sooner or later :p

I remember when 6800 Ultra get out Frequent History!! it runs SM2.0 perfect but it wasnt pretty cool for SM3.0 and HDR (age 3,Tomb raider legends, ...) and you have to buy 7800/7900 series for best run of SM3.0 and HDR games Now Frequent History! First generation of SM4.0 cards being like first geretantion SM3.0 (6800 Series) and I think second generation of SM4.0 cards will be better choice

either you get the first new generation (ie GF) and huge groupd of all new features along with moderate performance jump, but high power requirements and high price.
or you get the refresh (ie GF2) which has only minor new features, refined more usable performance and typically higher volume, lower power and lower price.
features vs performance.. choose!

8900 = 65nm? (it would cut die size in half, amongst other things)
BTW: what is the voltage that GTX/GTS run (considering its still the same TSMC 90nm and GTS OC is hitting like 600Mhz+, I'd imagine around 1.3V)

If you're moving from a 7900GTX then the G80 will noticeable. But if you have like 7900's SLI or a 7950GX2 then honestly it's not really that much faster. About 12K compare to 10K for 7950GX2. Wait until Xmas for price to drop a bit.

Hopefully a pentium e will solve the cpu problem later this year (already have a conroe-compatible mobo) and the 8600GT/RV630XT will come out in late q2 2k7. I just don't wanna buy anything lower than unified shader after seeing 8800 performance.
Yields on single card oc are remarkable...and the OCs are SO dang smooth. Half the performance of oced GTS is more than a single 7900GTX...and thats $250 right there(Half of $499)

No it really isn't as close as you think, and I doubt you have a reliable source, if any at all. R600 will not be coming out this year, so I don't know what you consider soon.Originally Posted by JuanFlaiter

Personally, if you are using hardware that old, I fail to see why you need anything more than a x1900 or 7900gto/gtx.
I installed my 187$ sealed 7900GTX(real GTX, not GTO) in my Yonah this weekend, and I LOVE IT (you guys thought the 149$ X1900 AIW was a deal LOL!)
Clearly your not playing FEAR or Oblivion with what you have, why do you even need 8800/R600? Nick is still using an X800 right now!

Hope ATI's future offering doesnt own that up or itll be rather depressing for the price I paid.

I am limited by the room on my desk to a 20" flat screen and my current monitor is a Samsung which limits me to a max resolution of 1280 x 1024. At that resolution SLI or Crossfire is pretty much wasted money in my opinion, I 'll be darned if I can see much improvement in gameplay once I pass 40 or 50 FPS. Therefore as long as my current card (7900 GT) plays the games I want to play at a reasonable frame rate I can't see dropping 500 bucks just to say I have a 8800. When DX10 games become more common place I will upgrade. probably sometime next summer or next fall.

What exactly do all you people do for a living that you can afford the time to play so many games and yet still make enough money to buy close to $1000 in Graphics cards every few months? How many people here are going to 2 * 8800GTXs from one or two 7900GT(O)s?
I guess no one knows.Originally Posted by Dutch Schultz
