    ice-man cascade

Got a request for a -100° cascade some time ago, tomorrow it will be shipped to Sweden. I took longer than expected to get it ready, because of job and a lot of other work but finally its ready. And the most important part is good performance

    Parts:
    1.stage:
    Danfoss SC21CLX
    Luve 139 condenser(1,39kw)
    0,88l receiver
    Castel sight glass
    Castel filter
    Danfoss TS2 with 00 orifice
    Plate HX
    R507

    2.stage:
    Danfoss SC21CLX
    ND50F Desuperheater
    Danfoss OUB1 oil separator
    Danfoss pressure control
    R1150

    Results:
-40°C to -45°C HX temp (today a bit lower because of only 15°C ambient)
    -105°C w/o load, 200w -96°C
I hope the owner of the unit can approve this temps

    Ready for shipping on pallet

You got it Shipping is expensive this way, but too much danger of damaga when you ship it in a normal package with common parcel service.

    Thx for the nice comments!

Ive seen units shipped on a pallet get a nice "tap" from a forklift truck when the operator has been rushing and has gone forward on the pallet before the forks are fully down
Never underestimate the brutality of shipping a unit! I hope it arrives damage free.

Hmm, I woulda thought you would need some stainless steel braiding on that flex line to handle 1150 safely?

    EDIT lol nvm

Look at the second picture, the line has stainless steel braid.

Erixon: I shipped a few cascades like this one and all arrived with no damage at all

Yes thats true. Braided flex line isn't really needed because pressure won't get higher than 10bar at low side. But its better to have a braided line in cascades

He would have to let the HX cool to temp first before turning on the second stage compressor. Otherwise the 1150 won't condense and his pressures will skyrocket!

    Thx!

the_new_guy: The case and the layout was designed by me, littledevil produced these awesome cases for me. He made me a good offer so he got the job.
The second stage compressor is turned on by the thermostat automatically when a temperature of -25°C on HX out is reached. So you only start the first stage with the switch. Pulldown on first stage is pretty fast, I would bet about 3 minutes after starting the unit and you have -100° on the evap.

    Good stuff Cold_ICE.
Skirms, I probably use one of strongest unbraided suction line that is available around for single stage (185psi working pressure 270 psi test pressure). However, considering the dangers involved on 2nd stage, I can't imagine selling units with non braided suction line in case of failure on 1st stage. Pressure cut off usually are set around 300psi, manual pressure relief around 350 to 400 psi. Most of components are rated working to 300psi and suction line will be the weakest link bringing the total number down.
