    Is my p5b-deluxe a dud?

I am having problems overclocking the FSB on my p5b Deluxe.

    My hardware:

    e6600
    p5b-deluxe running 507 bios
    corsair xms-6400

    My tests:

*All settings include locking pci and pci-x at 33 / 100mhz respectively.

    1) Stock everything, RAM at 1:1 running at ddr2-533mhz, system is orthos stable.

    2) Overclock to 300mhz fsb, CPU at 2.7ghz, RAM at 1:1 running at ddr2-600mhz, system is orthos stable.

    3) Stock everything, RAM at 2:3 running at ddr2-800mhz, system is orthos stable.

As a result of these tests, I think I have established that my CPU can run at at least 2.7ghz, my RAM at at least 800mhz, and my chipset at at least 300mhz.

    Now the problem:

I enable multiplier setting, and set to 6.

    I set RAM at 1:1.

System is not orthos stable at even 325mhz FSB. At this FSB, my CPU and RAM are running well below what they can do. CPU is at less than 2ghz and ram is at ddr2-650. So I think its the FSB that is limiting me.

I have tried increasing NB , FSB termination voltage, and SB voltages up to and including the maximum. I cant get the system prime stable.

Is my p5b deluxe a dud?

Try jumping to 405mhz or something. Termination voltage at 1.4v, NB voltage at 1.55. Some people have had success by completely skipping the 300 range. Also, don't use SPD. Set your own timings.

    Still stuck

have you tried upping ur vdim?
Its rated at 1.9v, ddr2-800mhz, 5-5-5-12. I dont see why i need to up vdimm to run at ddr2-666, 5-5-5-12. I have tried upping vcore up to 2.1, but it strangely gets less stable the more I up vdimm.

Also, don't use SPD. Set your own timings.
I have been setting my own timings.

You need to jump to 405+ FSB if your RAM can handle it.

I thought the 507 bios fixes the FSB 'gap' issue?

No, that's what introduced it (at least for me).

Using the same setup. Mine wil not boot at anything under 400 FSB. Tried several bios but no luck. Over 400 everything is fine. Boot with 400 and clockgen back in windows works as wel:

0507, as others have said, does not work well with anythign from mid 300's to 400mhz. Best thing to do is update to the beta 0609 BIOS. I personally don't like to risk jumping to 400 right off the bat like others. 0609 fixed all botting problems in the 300 range and even though it is a beta it seems to be bug free.

Also to whoever has the authority...threads like this would be less likely to show up if someone stickied the P5B deluxe support thread.

Well, thanks for the help. Turns out what was going strange with my computer was that I was overvolting the ram too much.

I knocked down the vDimm to 1.9, put NBV to 1.55 and FSB TermV to 1.4 and ran 405FSB stable. If I used a vDimm of 2.0 or 2.1, I would get errors in Orthos.

*On a side note, I ran 405FSBx8 at 1.35vCore for 3.2ghz for a 10 hour Orthos stress test with no errors. I am happy now! Thanks again for the help.

My P5B-Deluxe hasn't got any issues in the 350-400mhz range. I've tested both 350 and 375mhz without probs. Using 0507 bios.

Well, I have the opposite results. With the 502 BIOS I found my CPU was stable at 3ghz, but when I tried 7x375 on 507 BIOS I couldn't boot, but 7x420 would get me into Windows and run tests.

I don't think people are laughing at your misfortune, more likely they are laughing at you blaming a particular BIOS revision, when it appears that the BIOS has little to do with it, except perhaps that it allowed you to reach a higher FSB, exposing an existing problem with your board.

How were you cooling the NB? I know from experience that the NB can reach insane temps at high FSB with stock cooling. In my opinion, at the very least, you should add some active cooling to the NB before attempting high FSB.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your misfortune, I hope things work out for you.
