    Thanks guys,

Just gaming benches and gaming in general. I played a few hours of Oblivion @ 1680x with the filtering dialed up and all multi-threading possible enabled. Did a few in EQ 2 @ the same res with massive battles on a raid and with 4xAA|16xAF. So far it's all fine.

If any odd behavior crops up I will definitely do an entire suite of stability tests. I am sure I will run Orthos at some point and will update when I do. Right now I am gaming a lot.

    @Moonraker

Well right off, do what most others suggest, start with the ram on by SPD and @ 1:1. Both my Asus boards love 1:1. Keep your NB cool as possible and of course your CPU. I like my Antec case because it isolates my hard disks and PSU from the rest of my rig and provides them with their own fresh air.

I was shocked I can actually boot 500 x 7 with the NB @ stock, the CPU @ 1.45v and ram 2.25. I haven't tried it for stability though. It was fine for surfing and dinking around. I'll test it thoroughly later as time allows. I just got my board late yesterday.

My E6400 will do 3.2 GHz in this board and the P5W with all voltages stock. I don't have to get aggressive with voltage til 3.7GHz or high in 3.6. Right now I am doomed with any OC that requires 1.6v on the core. My system's cooling can't tame it. I may move to an open air "tech station" set up down the line. It would make fiddling with my hardware like I like to do much easier and allow for potentially higher OCs on air.

I've noticed a lot of folks with impressive air OCs have the mobo out sitting on the box it came in :P, with a Tuniq Tower 120 of course!

Highest FSB so far with Kentsfield and P5B Dlx

And let's see Conroe or Allendale get this Cinebench score with air cooling.

If Mouser doesn't have it, you're using the wrong part.

I don't think it really matters where you buy the board. Just look for the reseller with the cheapest price and a good return policy.

Regarding Vmods, I don't think they're really needed on this board, unless you are trying for world records. It's much easier to hit 500+ FSB with Allendale. But with the right cooling, 500+ is possible with Conroe.

My two favorite BIOS's are 0502 and 0504. With 0504, I can run my RAM at DDR2-1200 and 4-4-4 timings. It also unlocks the downward multipliers on Conroe.

I've also noticed slightly better results in Cinebench with the P5B Dlx versus the P5WDG2 WS Pro. I think the 965 chipset is better in rendering than the 975X.

Sierra, have you tried the new 0605 bios with the Kentsfield?

Yes, I've used 0605. I found 0502 is better for Kentsfield. This is the only board I've tried that allows 400+ FSB with Kentsfield. FSB speed is very important in Cinebench. A few weeks ago, I thought I was limited to 400FSB. But with 0502, I'm up to 435.

The biggest negative about 965 boards is they suck in 32M. I believe the chipset has higher latency than 975X. You won't notice this in SuperPi 1M because that bench is so short. But you will in 32M. The time below would be much faster with a 975X board, especially given the RAM speed.

0502 also has some sort of bug. When I set 4-4-4 timings in BIOS, CPU-Z reads them as 4-7-7. A few people have brought up this issue.

Here is Kentsfield with 0605 bios. CPU-Z reads timings correctly. Good memory speed, but won't boot with 400 FSB. With 0502, 400+ is no problem.

I got mine from Scan here in England. £128. That's £20 dearer than you paid malficar (£108).

Bloody hate this countries Tax system. So stupid.

A couple of notes about the 0609 BIOS that AndreYang kindly made available.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=113866

The BIOS shows multipliers up to 12 are available for Kentsfield. But when I tried to use 11 and then 12, it dropped back down to 10. 4:5 performance is better, as Andre indicated. But FSB on Kentsfield is more limited than some of the other BIOS's I've tried.

If you want fully unlocked multipliers for Kentsfield, the best options right now are the Asus P5W DH and the P5WDG2 WS Pro. The P5W64 WS Pro might also be a good choice. The one advantage to using the P5B Dlx is it's the only board I've tried that allows FSB on Kentsfield above 400.

That's nice. But this is nicer on air.

That was with the P5WDG2-WS Pro. Hope to repeat the same clocks on my P5B Dlx.

That sounds about right. 975X boards seem better for maximum CPU speed, while 965 is good for FSB and memory clocks. A decent unmodded 975X board might get 470FSB. Of course, we know 965 boards can do much more than that. Overall I think 965 boards are a little more fun to play with.

May sound noobish here. But is the E6600 idling at 32'c good or bad?
