Pumps: Iwaki or MCP655 (D5) for my Dual PA120.3 Loops?

Hi,
I am going to be buying two pumps soon, for my two loops. The loops are going to be identical PA120.3 (with shrouds and a push/pull 6 fan setup), one loop for my CPU, and one loop for my GPU('s). They will be seperate loops, of course. For the CPU I will be using a Storm Rev. 2 waterblock, and Maze4 water block
One other thing, is the loops aren't too restrictive, considering I won't be putting CPU+GPU or more on the same loop.

Now, I had orignally planned on getting an Iwaki MD-20RZ, but thats $180, and there is no way in hell I want to spend $360 on pumps alone. I am quite adement that I don't want to spend over $250 on pumps.

The Iwaki MD-20RZ (too expensive) has these specs: Iwaki MD-20RZ Japanese high pressure rated pump. 5/8 inch hose connection on inlet and outlet. 1/38 HP Motor output. 3100 RPM motor speed. 0.53 amps. Max flow 2.9 GPM. Max head 22.6 ft. Max system pressure 14.22 psi.

The Iwaki WMD-20RLT (barely affordable) has these specs: Iwaki WMD-20RLT American motor pressure rated pump. 3/4 inch MPT inlet and outlet. 1/38 HP Motor output. 3100 RPM motor speed. 0.48 amps. Max flow 8.2 GPM. 378 GPH at 6 feet of head. Max head 14.0 ft. Max system pressure 9.95 psi.

Now, Maxxracer said this "The MD20RLT will also work, providing temps roughly .1 c higher", and that being said, the specs are so VASTLY different between the two Iwaki's, I have reason to doubt, can anyone give me more information on this?


So, now onto the second part of the post, the smaller pump options (MCP655 (D5)). I'll be quite frank, and state that I really don't much at all about the smaller pumps, because I never had to consider them before.

So, as far as I know, the MCP655 is the same as the D5. Is it worth considering in my loop? It seems almost as good as the cheaper Iwaki, and is a LOT cheaper.

Last question, what about Eheim? Any good?

It's not that I don't have the money, its that I am not willing to spend it. I already spent $340 on Thermochill stuff

A 50Z, D5 or DDC (+) are all fine options for both loops. No need to spend any more for what will at most be a dual block setup. From the sound of it, a DDC with modified top will be the best option in terms of performance, but a 50Z or D5 (or plain DDC+) will do just fine for a much cheaper price.

I'd aim to spend about $180 with shipping for the 2 pumps.

you would only need ONE MD-20RZ in that loop, or two D5/MCP-655's to be equal to that


pick your flavor - run a single, large, more powerful pump that runs off of AC (requires a switch relay), or two smaller, less powerful pumps that run off of DC (just plug into your PSU)

find whats more convenient as far as placement, tubing and wire routing, and pricing goes, but theres absolutely no need for two MD-20RZ's



edit: just noticed that you were doing two separate loops... you could do a MD-20RZ for the CPU loop if you want absolute insane performance with a jet impengement block, and a D5 for the GPU loop, or D5's for both


and btw, you could easily get away with a dual rad for each loop instead of a triple if it saves you any trouble

Two loops NEED a pump solution PER loop... And I'm not going to put 4 D5's in, because thats too expensive.

Consider the size of the Iwakis. I would be VERY impressed if you managed to fit two MD20RZ/RLT's in... well, any case on earth, unless its home made.

If you want insane performance, use double modded dcc+ for your cpu loop and modded dcc+ for your gpu loop.
Gpuloop won't really benefit from insane flow/head pressure. Maze4's design doesn't really fenefit from it.

same specs as the MD20-RZ just longer (and thinner) and supposedly louder

If you are going to get an iwaki and spend the money for the love of all that is holy in water cooling dont get the MD20. Get the RD20 or the RD30, better performance, less heat dump, smaller, quieter, 24v dc and you can undervolt them if you want to turn the rage down a little

or

One pump, get a "Y" splitter then direct to two loops, then have both connect back with another "Y" fitting.

RD30 with a scarry 36ft of head shouldnt really have a problem with either solution but I think one loop would get you better results.
