May i suggest to make the rad shroud out of aluminum.. Just get a sheet from the hardware store and cut it out into a box shape and fold the edges over a striaght edge to make clean edges. Tape the corners with some aluminum tape. Pad the inside with some foam too take the edge off the fan noise. Just use long bolts to attach the fans and your golden.

The internal rad shroud is made of plex. Its a box style shroud. But im planing on covering everything to make it look neater.I would love to make it with metal however I dont have welding equipment so that isnt an option now. Wish it were.Originally Posted by eclypse

i'm sorry if i might have sounded too harsh
the copper tubing makes for a clean look, so it is a choice, and as you say your flow rates are good; wtg
and in such a small case, it will be one hell of a job to get the rad inside (next to impossible i guess) but as it looks like your metal working skills are top notch, i'm sure you will find a way to make a nice shroud.
how's the pump noise after the rubber foam loving? i might have bought that pump, but lots are complaining about the noise it makes.
Honestly I dont like the noise. Even after all that foam it still resonates. It seems to be that these pumps need to be suspended and not hard mounted to be quiet.
Im hoping to switch to a dd pump (the new chepo unit) if its quiet or I may bite the bullet and buy a d5 and just rheo it down to where its silent.

good luck on that, after all this i'll just stick to my trusty old 1048, even my 1250 was too noisy for my liking.
you could try just letting the pump sit on the foam, instead of bolting it trough the foam. but heck, with all the copper tubing, you could suspend all you like on the pump, it'd still resonate through the tubing.
anyhow, watercooling doesn't seem to give those monster oc's anymore, so it'd better be quiet.
Well this board gave me a 45% oc on this chip. And its the board limiting me. WC does give you good oc but you gotta find the sweet spot.Originally Posted by g.l.amour

Here's an idea for eliminating fan shroud noise, but it looks......akward heh.
I had been given one of those fake Tempupedic bed linings....not the actual bed, just like a 2" thick piece of the foam. And I never used it. So. Hacked it up, and used it in various places to test out how well it works with vibration reduction.
Works pretty well, and it's VERY moldable.
Here is a pic of lining AROUND the rad where it joins to the shroud surface.
Here is another pic, kinda hard to see, but I am trying the whole, "just let it sit on the foam", thing hehe. It works really well, and this foam is so soft, that it molds around the edges of the pump mount, help keeping it in place. NOTHING is holding this pump in place, and it has been to 2 LAN events, including a 2 hour car drive to a 500 person event. I been busy.
Just another bit of info, I believe you can get a pillow, o even this thing I have, from Wal-Mart or the linking, for around $30. A pillow will provide a TON of material for any rig project.
I apreciate your input. But my noise problems dont come from shroud noise or fans. Its the pump resonating on pipes. Thats all. Ill replace the pump with something different and call it a day.
Nice case you got there btw

Well I will be reciving a new rad this friday. I ordered a triple 120 rad and some yates on this machine.
So far the load temps are in the 42-43c range with my new craig davis pump @ 5v and all my fans on min.
The to do list includes sound insulation all around the case.
New chipset block (mcw-30)
The craig davis pump should be refitted so it looks nice and insulated for noise (although its totally silent now)
Paint the top of the case and polish it.
As of now with just the new pump, the case is nearly silent.
I was lucky enough to get sponsored a craig davis pump. SO I hope to post a emblem in this forum.

OK update time.
I have decided to replace my heater core with a triple 120mm swiftech radiator. It finally arrived.
Here she is
Here is another shot to show the finish on this thing. The finish on it is awesome.
The fans above are the icing on the cake. These are the quietest fans I have ever owned. I put 12v on 10 of these babies and they are still quieter than my psu fan. Thats 10fans making less noise than 1 on my stinken psu. They push about 47cfm acording to manufacturer.
Well the folks over at craig davis were kind enough to sponsor me a pump.
This thing is awesome. Its quieter than my swiftech pump and it can run @ 5v providing 1.5L/min. @ 12v it puts out ~3L/m. The kicker is that this thing runs cooler than my previous swiftech making it more ideal to run it insulated for noise.
Here it is compared to my older swiftech unit.
And the pump compared to an undressed swiftech pump.
Original pump mounting. Where the new pump will go in.
Now I want to mount the triple rad down flush with the case. So I need more airflow. I built this front plate to go on top of the case. (I may paint the bezel of it black to match the case). I also put on a sponge on it to make sure dust stays out of the case.
I added an air filter on the front as well. But something was missing. I decided to put a couple of red ccfls in the front to light up the sponge. It looks funky and weird.
And the pic of my favorite new toy. I love the tube amp.
I am putting sound dampening all over the case as well. I bought some spire sound mats.
And some thicker dampening material.
Thats it for this update. Sometime next week I am hoping to update again.

looks gooddo you have any more info about the pump?

The pump is 3/4inch on both inlet and outlet. The motor on it is very tourquey as well. Its is a magnetic drive pump so no worries about seals.
It is rated to -40c or so, it would actually make a great chiller pump. So far I am very pleased with its performance. The whole thing screams quality. All in all compared to the 50z pump I had in there, this thing is way better balanced and a hell of allot more tourquey. After having it run @ 12v for a week with the front fans off in my case, the pump is still cool, and I suspect the heat dump is lower too as my temps have dropped 1-2c on average.

Oh and you know push pull only increases pressure, therefore reducing loss? I'd take off 3 of those fans! Its using more electricity (10W i know big deal) making more noise and probably not helping.

All the fans will be on a rheostat. They will be running 5-7V. The secret here is static pressure and low noise. FYI all 10 fans conected @ 12v make the same amount of noise as my supposedly silent coolmax psu.Originally Posted by serialk11r
