looks like the 7900GTX and the X1900XTX is virtually toe to toe @High quality 1280x1024 HDR...

not a very thorough test if you ask me.
wheres the 1600 x 1200 or higher resolutions?
wheres the high AA and AF resolutions?
wheres the Chuck Patch so to test HDR and AA at the same time?
could have been better is all I am saying...
Strange...
While I was looking at the exterior enviroment benchmarks, I noticed that the x1900xt was beating the x1900xtx![]()
I though its probably the randomness of the foilage outside.
So I went to the next page for the interior enviroment benchmarks, but then I notice one benchmark where the XT beats the XTX again but by a small edge.
It should be at least close, but not beating it since the XTX has higher clock speeds and a better GPU.
Why does the XTX lose vs the XT?
Is this a driver issue or a benchmarking error?
yeah - I also noticed that.. and on the town w/ hdr test the 7900GTX SLI setup was getting beaten by single cards of the same class... strange

i read this review and have wondered if there were some other factors that came into play on some of the tests because some of the results arent making sense to me and as i see now, others as well
That is why I play this game on the 360![]()
$400 is a bargain compared to the cost of the gfx cards you need to run it well![]()

Yea but you can't mod it so nanana :p
I've got two pages of mods which I use and some on them (like the BT mod) I just can't imagine playing oblivion without them. Still I need to get either a X1800XT or X1900GT(when it comes out) and then I'll really be loving it.
<eMesreveR>Do "girls" ever appear outside the Internet? Can i randomly encounter them?
<Aleph-One>I believe they are a fabrication. Most of the evidence would suggest that they were created in a studio during the Cold War to display our industrial superiority over the Soviet Union.

They don't show what settings were used in the drivers so they could have done pretty much anything. Showing us the ingame settings is about as useful as a concrete pillow. And the tests were all done with AA off.. LOL. You wanna do no HDR comparisons (ie bloom+AA) for those nvidia users that want AA.
And this is pure BS. A single x1900XT cannot beat an x1900XTX under any circumstances outside of funky results. There is absolutely no difference between the cards except clock speeds. They are identical in every other sense and having something faster will never translate into lower performance. Someone's fudging the data here![]()
Looks like Anandtech just made mylist.

I see what I see, and you see what you see. I can't make you see what I see, but I can tell you what I see is not what you see. Truth is, we see what we want to see, and what we want to see is what those around us see. And what we don't see is... well, conspiracies.

see I have both 7900 GTX's in SLI here, and a X1900XTX in my back up PC.
the 7900's were my main card for awhile.
then I tried Oblivion, and I was faily happy playing it on the GTX's, but disappointed to see I could not run HDR and AA at the same time.
with 2 7900 GTX's in SLI I was running 1280 x 800, Bloom on, all things maxed out, AF at 2X.... yes 2X anymore and it would crawl when a grassy area showed up. and just about every CFG mod I could, including Tree Draw distance, so the trees would never just "pop up" on the screen, cause they were renderd about 4 times farther away from me, then normal.
overall, I was happy.
I thought that was the best I could get with that game.
then the Chuck patch came out, and I got curious.
took out my GTX's and put my single XTX in there.
boy I can sure say this, it's like Night and Day.
ATI dominates this game.
Cat 6.3 + Chuck Patch, I am able to run...
1440 x 900.
AA at 2x.
AF at 16x.
HDR on.
All things maxed except self shadows.
including my usual CFG mods, including the tree mod.
and it still plays better then the 7900 GTX's did in SLI with the 84.26 drivers.
I can play it at my absolute max resolution at 1680x1050 but it can get alittle choppy then, especially at the gold coast.
1440 x 900 is a great comprimise in that case, and I can certainly live with that.
I use a Opteron 170 at 3.07 ghz, with 2 gigs of ram.
the XTX is definatly a better card, when it comes to Oblivion.
wtf thier high quality settings are set to like 50% and 65% on most things wtf rofl
on my machine with my 7800gt and a nice oc to 575/1200 i can run most settings maxed out and certainly higher settings then they run. thier high quality is the same defaults that the xbox uses its like 50% to 75% maxed sliders on distance things like characters and trees but i can run all those at 100% fine
seems like a half assed review to me
lol kunack your overview of the x1900xtx versus the 7900 sli is more informative imo
I sure hope most of the future games won't follow this path: the game is WOODEN, and TO demanding, and for what...
The thing is that it still looks great even at low settings IMO so it does scale down quite far (excluding anybody with an FX)

i guess im the only one dissappointed wiht the textures in this game? hte muli poc usage is nice, and so far the physicas have been as flawless as i've seen but the textures only seem to be appealing from afar![]()
i has a aych dee thirtee ate sevin-d.
and a puter.
wif a screen.
an mouse.
hai.
I think that the oblivion gpu shoot out was kinda wierd or rather maybe they had problems with the drivers or something.. Switching between all those cards and all must have done something to the test.
I just want to share my settings compared to anandtechs.
I get higher fps than the 7600gs card. To make really sure i was right I started the game and walked to a oblivon gate in the woods, where it crawled with enemies.
I did not close any applications, cus i didnt felt like it.
Opera 9 with 41 pages opened, a msn photoshop pic transfer, winamp at pause, and photoshop with 2 psd files was still open.
My system running at 2430mhz(270x9), mem at 166 setting running 221mhz @cas 2.5-4-4-7-2t and the the 6800le card at 413/875 mhz@stock pipes. Oblivion video setting at 1024 @high with large textures and all, the bars ar around where the medium systems have them expect for the view distance setting(40%) and yeah dont forget that hdr is on.
This piece of junk manages to get around 17 fps here and sometimes it can go down to 12 with all this in the background, but i know that the view distance setting can make this game a hell if set all the way.
My promise ata 100tx2 card did get damaged cuz of oc so i had to use the onboard ide ports, and the system now seems not to handle multiple applications opened at the same time as well as with the ata card.
So something must be faulty at anandtech.

I agree with the(damn your silly name), the thing I would have most liked to see what higher detail textures. 512x512 maps are not big enough for a next gen game but they seem to be exceptionally low detail even for that. There are already some texture mods being made which knocks it up to 1024 but I lost the links to both threads about them.

I agree that the Anandtech staff should have used higher resolutions and thrown some AA into the mix. Seems a little one-sided to run benchmarks with settings that generally tend to favor Nvidia cards.

i run on x800GTO 16 pipe 580/450 at 1680x1050 high settings HDR off...
I get 40-60 indoors and 25-35 outdoors... It's actually not that bad.
From what AT posted i am chewing up their FPS with even higher resolutions. I agree, this review is pretty poor. AT quality has been going down for a while IMO.
this is with 146 3.0ghz 133div 200mhz ram 2x1g 2-3-2
with all settings stock i got creamed at 15fps outside 25 inside (roughly)
I don't think many systems out there could handle 16x12, 6xAA, 16xAF and HDR, with FULL (and i don't mean trees and grass fade ten feet away) detail.
The firing squad review is better.
