Put the X2 on me X1800XT. Unfortunately i do not have temps overclocked with stock HSF anymore. When gaming @ stock with stock HSF @ dynamic it hit around 65C at full load. This was at 65% speed which is pretty loud already imo. Now with the X2 at the same dynamic settings max ive seen so far is around 55C with the fan @ 50%, dead silent.... Pretty pleased so far !

that guy seems to have really bad results from the VF 900...
he's so mad about it, that hes ready to basically sell it for half price to just get rid of it.

seems the VF 900 for the X1900 series, isn't recommended.
glad I stuck with my Accelero X2 for this card, cause its cheap and definatly better then the Stock cooler.
I'm pretty much in the same position about the VF900, I'm gona give it one more try, but I highly doubt it will outperform my fs-v7. Gah, what a waste.
I had the fastest 32M Opteron time for about 1/2 day, and I'm damn proud of it

The link to that post suggests what i have been thinking for the past 2 days now, when I replaced my VF900 with the shop i got it from for a new one and it did not improve on anything at all.

After the replacement, knowing it couldnt be a faulty heatpipe, i started thinking that the voltage regulator mirrors the core, temperature-wise.

Currently i'm running stable with the zalman: 625 / 720 @ 1.225 V with cool temperatures. Zalman running in slowest speeds too.

Basically, when the vRegulator is 86 C (for example) the core is just around that temperature as well.

Could it be the zalman plainly sucks doing any cooling there, could it be that i just have a vRegulator that gets really hot compared to yours? Does an XTX have a better/cooler vRegulator?

I'll find out when i get me a Accelero X2 too, which will be soon(tm). I'm hoping this cooler will do more active cooling around the regulator, atleast. The price is like 20 euros max, so its not a real waste if performance is worse or the same.

Plus, in the name of science, we will know the performance difference between 2 cooler models on the same card, in the same case!

With My X2 I have never seen my voltage regulator temps above about 71c after looping something for hours in a hot room. That is with the chips bare. I was thinking of getting some Microcool microsinks to put on them to possibly aid in a couple degrees less in temperature. Just have to find someplace in Canada who sells them.

This sudhian.com review about accelero x2 and zalman products seems bullsh*t.

I can give you real world results with my X1800 XT. With Zalman VF-700Cu, running ATI Tool artifact scanning 3D picture, got gpu temperature 82..83 C (full fan speed). With Accelero X2 (also full fan speed) 70 C. All other testing conditions were the same. Additionally X2 is much more quieter at full speed than VF700-Cu.

With closed computer case the heat started to gather under the videocard (as you know X2 blows hot air against the motherboard), so I put a 120 mm fan to suck out the hot air. All temps went back to 68..70 C.

Still, with 702/891 (gpu/mem) Mhz voltage regulator gets ~83 C. ATI tool shows 38,2 A power draw. I this 83 C ok for it or should I try it cool down?

    Extra 120 mm quiet fan

cantankerous, you dont have the red heatsink on your card? i thought that is where the voltage regulator is located.

Yes I do have the red heatsink but infront of that is 7 bare chips I want covered.

With your X2 installed what clocks and volts do you have going on the card?

Currently I have gpu 1,375 V and memory 2,064 (both MVDDQ and MVDDC). I tried lower voltages, but then artifact scanner showed heavy corruption.

I was heating up my card and still noticed some rare random "yellow stains" in picture so I lowered memory to 886 Mhz. I put my old zalman blue memory heatsinks before this default red and long heatsink. Did get some lower values, but still voltage regulator temp. sensor shows ~83 C. Now I repositioned my 120 mm fan (it blows air behind voltage regulator). With opened case temp. was nice 67 C, but as soon as door was closed it went back 78..80 C.

    I'll try some more tricks.

EDIT: Removed HDD ATA cable from the ventilator way, changed the angle and now voltage regulator maxes 71 C and gpu 75 C. Not bad.

So with the case closed, the only problem you are having is the vRegulator temp? Or do you also have problems with the core temp?

the voltage regulators are next to the red heatsink. the things under the red heatsink are the mosfets....... and yes the Zalman VF-900 is garbage on a X1900 card. Shame on them for putting out phoney reviews.
The little air system that could.

    Termal compound...What to use???

Would people please post what kind of thermal paste they are using on the X2 if not using the pre-applied paste that comes with it. I was thinking of using Artic Silver5 but not sure if this would help that much.

Here is one review using AS on the X2 with a X1900XT.

seems like the X2 is the better choice for the X1900 cards...

funny, cause when I did my little preview of the X2 a few weeks ago, people couldn't put down the heatsink enough, and had only bad things to say.

funny how a few weeks can change alot

I Still think it looks like a turd, but I might just buy one to test it out anyway =P. Guess we shouldn't buy products based on how they look!

who cares what it looks like?

if it was pink and coverd in teletubby stickers, but still better then the competition, I'd use it

About identical to me, 75c gpu core full load in a hot room and 71c on the vregs.

Nope, only problem was with voltage regulator. Maybe it it's not .. if ~85 C is ok, then I do not have a problem

Without 120 mm with closed case temperatures went up anyways, so in my case it is must-have-item. Now I seem to have gained 2..3 C gpu temp. increase, but vRegulator is 12..13 C lower. Fair trade I guess.

So, which one was the better option for silent operation? X2 or VF900? edit: On an X1900XTX?

Yeah, exactly... but people are saying that for the X1900XTX, the Accelero is better ?
