Yet another DFI SB cooler question

Ok, the fan is dying on my Chipset. What other alternatives are there to the Vantec Iceburg? I liked the Ting something heatpipe cooler, but cannot find it. What about the cooler master Ice tower? Does it fit?

    TIA

I just bought one as well. Just what I was looking for, It will fit perfectly since I have an Arctic Silencer. Only thing is weird, is that the heat pipe is inverted, I'll tell you guys as well if this thing is any good, I currently get 42c how it is, and 36c when I put a 80mm fan next to it.

    Talking Thanks Wes!

Didn't know these were out yet, on the way w/ a WC block for dif project. I HATE the sound of the DFI chipset fan. Can compare it to getting one of the Swifty copper coolers, bending teh sh|t out of it so my Vidcard fits and using it passive/fan nearby

Heheh, buy a Artic Cooling Freezer 64 and cut away the center of the Al fins, like I saw on these forums before. You just need to tap some screw holes into the copper base and grab some steel or Al bars for mounting posts from the hardware store, pop some holes in those and mount it to your mobo.

I just with I had the tools to slice thru that many Al sheets. That would be way too much for a Dremel. LOL. Hack Saw!! lol.

The width of the heatpipes should keep it out of the way of the vid card. Obviously this could be totally passive too. Heck it looks like the Pro version is the same price now too.

Seriously though I don't think the chipset needs much cooling. <50C is excellent for a chip, <60C is obviously well within what these things are designed for. My Ultra-D's crap Al chipset cooler never goes above its medium speed setting and it never heats up to 50, even overvolted in the BIOS.

Just thought I'd mention my recent fun with a Vantec Iceberq. I got the non-pro version, and the size was just fine and all... but the spaces for the pins that go into the board did NOT line up with the holes on my DFI NF4 SLI-D. It was *very* close, but no-way it would go.

I ended up having to break out a file and file down a small part of one of the outer 'wings' the top plastic guard is screwed into so that it would fit around a capacitor on the board, and then I had to break out a circular file and spend half an hour filing the holes on each side to be larger so it would fit.

Just thought some people might want a warning that it could happen.

People have run into that before. Either you use the new rubber holder thinga ma jigs, or you can off set one side and drill a new hole/ enlarge it.

ok well I got mine yesterday and installed it. I'll give a more detail mini-review when i have more time. But installation was ok, however, there was NO directions. So i guessed. This is the best way I could figure to mount it on my board.

The thing is dead silent, and cools good. Stock Volts on the NB i'm setting at 44c. The PWMIC is also 44C. Its fairly warm in my room.

    Anyway, more to follow later.
