OCZ Phase Change Unit For $299?????

    damn....

OCZ hopes to make phase-change a real choice for more buyers with the introduction of a $299 MSRP Phase Change cooling system. Shipments should begin in about 30 days, and OCZ tells us that once sales volume picks up, they are hopeful that prices can drop even further to the $200 range.
The demo unit was reporting -25 to -27C driving an AMD FX57 processor at 3.2 GHz.

Hmm i don't know about that. I dont think its going to hold a load with high vcore. Put simply fx 57 can get to 3.2 gig at almost stock vcore. thus there is prolly no load on the unit. crank the volts to 1.7 vcore and now your prolly at +10C. My mach 1 reads out -21 evap temps loaded with an x2 @ 3.0 gig w/1.65v cpu temps at 0C. I'm curious to see what the cooling watts are that its capable of.

I'm worried about the noise... I want a near silent system, unless I'm gaming, then it can be louder.

That seems a cheap low-end phase change unit.

Chilly1 mentioned a couple times that it's a strong and silent machine, so I wonder in how many years will this reach Europe. Me wants.

I definatly think this has potential. I imagine it would be pretty quiet, and even if it barely holds sub zero under a load, who cares? 300 bucks is a bit less than i spent on the watercooling listed in my sig. and it gets me temps a little above ambient. I guess once this comes out we'll really be able to see what its capable of in the hands of "REAL" enthusiests. If its decent, i plan on putting one on a 950 as soon as i can buy it, a new mobo, ram, and vid card. If 5Ghz has been hit on these presler dual cores on air, and 6.1 on SS Vapo, 5.5+ should be doable even if this unit DOES turn out to be low end.

I'm starting to warmup to it....at first I was doubting the load it could handle, but I guess it'll probably be tuned for higher loads and sacrifice a few C with lower loads.

there's a lot of speculation that its already gonna be gassed with one of the secret chilly1 blends. there's one pic out there that shows the compressor with an R134a sticker on it. Just b/c the compressor is rated for 134a doesnt mean thats what they are running.

Given the info and load temps posted by Tony already, it is almost certainly running a special blend already, b/c that compressor(1/6hp) should not be capable of the preliminary results with something like R134 in it.

EDIT: @ Maxxx - I dont know. I've posted links back to the big thread in the phase forum on each of the other threads on it, and they just keep giong. Haven't seen perkam around much lately, and lawlessness and anarchy as taking hold in the news section as a result!

Well I can definitely see good things coming out of this (besides subzero temps ). This will encourage more manufacturers to produce cheap consumer phase cooling units and ultimately take over water cooling.

Maybe thats going a bit too far...

But well done OCZ I say

I personally avoided water cooling solutions because of the amount of hassle required to set one up and to me it wasn't worth it (gotta get the tubes, pump, rad, fans, then you gotta do the 24 hour leak test, then you need some water blocks then you gotta change the rad if it starts leaking then you have to put up with crappy temps that only help your OC slightly...). Now that I can get affordable phase cooling without breaking the bank or my computer... I'd dig it.

A water cooling loop for about the same money will cool more then 1 thing.(not just a CPU) I just cant see this thing yeilding any great temp drops cause of volume and compressor size. Like earlier stated.. A FX57 will do 3.2ghz on water and some air at almost stock Vcore. so if you should have to give it some volts..hmmm just not sure. Will be interesting to see what it does. but I am definitly sure it will not operate in the Xtreme Overclocking machine of course.

This thing might be a real blow for the water guys.....hmmmmmm ambient temps with a wc set-up or waaay sub zero for the same $300....not too hard to decide.
