Can anyone please tell me if this mobo had already kill some cpu @ default settings (Without any kind of OC) ????

My DFI Expert kill my FX-55, 2GB Patriot mems, and of course the mobo itself, and i'm thinking to buy this one until DFI resolve my prob.

    Regards,

    Regards,

    I'm sorry to hear that!

I have not heard of a single reported "CPU kill" from the Asus A8N32, and I am a member of 4 computer hardware forums and involved in 2 seperate thread discussions about this motherboard (here and [H]ardForums).

    So I think it's a safe bet!

Different mobo so hard to compare real temps as it depends how the bios is converting the reading on the diode and converting them to temps (new bios temps change with the new bios as changes r made but temps may be the same ) also the Vcore may be different too reguardless what and software is saying.

Unless u use a temp probe (which also has its margins off error) on the CPU on the differnt mobos comparing is relative - well it is IMHO

Ohh I see, thank you for the explaination. So do you think those temps are kind of high for an Opty 175 clocked @ 2.5 GHz with 1.375 vCore?

Well thats only my opinion -

but u have a better HSF than the STD one and with only 1.375 Volts it should be fine - running mine at 1.5Vore and b4 I got the water cooling it was at 50-55C under load so your should be fine - infact its only warm

    ASUS Engineering team

I sent the following to the ASUS Engineering team. Lets see what kind of response we get back. I have there email address if anyone wants to PM me. (only for serious issues and broken features, they don't want run of the mill "where does the floppy drive plug into" type stuff)

*****I have the AN832-SLI version 901 bios. What has changed or been fixed in this version bios? Is this still beta?

Has the voltage reporting been fixed? No matter what you set the voltage to over 1.4 volts it doesn't go up. ~1.4v is basically the max unless you use the overvoltage feature (+0.200 mv) then it does work. You can verify this with a multimeter on the board itself.

Thank you very much. The community loves this board!!! Check this website out... (it also list some of the issues guys are having with it if your interested.)

Thanks for making such an awesome motherboard. There are some bugs to work out but I know you guys can fix em.*****

Let's hope they get a rep on here to help the people who've got one of these things through initial(and sometimes serious) problems.

well i just flashed to 901 and the memory still reports .5v higher with ai booster and the cpu voltage reports .035v higher. i don't know wher to check the vcore wih a dmm so i can't test, but the vcore and vdimm report the same as 703. the hypertransportt is now a multiplier which is nice. as for overclocking i won't be able to do any testing until my g skill gets here tommorow.

Thanks for the info. I feel much better now. Well after dinner I'm gonna try that. Load up some other games see if I have any similiar problems.

I'm just glad it's not the spacing on the motherboard causing my GPUs to overheat. The soundcard is pretty snug in there.
I forget if I mentioned this but I also have a 120mm fan blowing down on
    the expansion slots.

    Hello all.

I am new to this board, and I have read much of this thread, but not all of it. I have enjoyed computers for many years (I can still remember my Commodore-64), but I have just built my first PC completely from scratch with the A8N32-Sli Deluxe. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 2 GB of Corsair 3500LL Pro, an ATI All In Wonder X1800XL, Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music, and a bunch of Seagate 250 GB SATA-2 Hard Drives and 2 NEC DVD burners.

I have been doing a lot of reading on overclocking, but I am still somewhat unsure of how to proceed. I got my system up to 2.62 GHz (238 MHz X 11), but it was extremely unstable, and started to ignore my PS-2 Keyboard.

Right now (after clearing CMOS), my keyboard is functional, and I am running SuperPi without any errors at BIOS defaults. My approach the other day (that resulted in an unstable system) was to lower the memory clock to 100 MHz, and gradually increase the CPU clock. Once I got it to 238, I increased the memory clock to 183 MHz, as prior experience told me that the system would not boot with a CPU clock of 238 MHz and memory clock of 200 MHz. This is when I ran into trouble.

I realize that the MB is new, and experience is limited, but can anyone out there suggest some settings for this CPU/MB/memory combo that have been successful?

Thanks a lot, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Mark

Oh I wasn't trying to get a good score here.
    I was just checking stability.
So I had all sorts of background programs runing like Avast anti-virus ...
I turned on the screen saver and then I entered the Internet to write some posts...
Though it shouldn't make a big difference on a dual core CPU...

Anyone using this board with a lian-li 1000 or 1200?
I'm thinking of buying one, but since is atx inverted i would like to know if the heatpipe solution will work ok.

    TIA

From what I've read the heatpipe wont work as well if it is inverted so overclocking will be restricted unless you remove the heatpipe and use individual chipset fans/heatsink.

    Welcome to XS!

I have almost the same spec (see sig) and found that the memory divider works alot better when set to 166 or 133. 183 caused instabilty for me too and wasn't recognised in the bios post.
    My system runs fine @
    Memory 2.8v
    2.5-2-3-6 1T on a 166 divider

    CPU
    opty 165 at 1.3v(+0.2v)
    290x9(2.610ghz).

    Chipset
K8 to NB 600mhz - all others auto.

This is with all the overvolt options enabled and EEC disabled.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks...this is just the kind of help I was hoping for! What is the default multiplier for your Opty? For my chip, it is 200 MHz x 11. Should I lower the multiplier and increase the FSB? Or just leave it at 11 and try to get the FSB back up to 238? Or should I play with both approaches? Will I have to do anything to my PCI-E clock?

    Thanks again,

    Mark
