Maybe he only said "pre-release " to take off some heat from DFI?

Whether it is pre-release or retail changes everything. It changes how we view that it blew up CPUs ("more" OK for a pre-release board) and it changes my view on how DFI now treats OPB.

Last but not least I wouldn't be amused if the claim that it was a pre-release board turns out to have "accuracy problems".

    Hmmm,well thats a good question

If your a beta-tester (guinea pig)for a motherboard, and the bugs in that motherboard destroy your stuff, should the mobo manufacturer be held responsible?

I suppose its the price one pays for being the person who gets to show-off (the newest stuff)to everyone on the forums.

Uhmmm if prelease board is justification... they will lose whole lots of beta testers. Not that I am sure any feedback gets through anyway...

With no overclock and stock voltages?

And you are sure you got stock voltages and such? I must say there is too many reports like this to be comfortable... I think I will go for the Asus even if the DFI layout is tons better...

Yes without any kind of OC and stock voltages!!!! And DFI doesn't say anything about this!!! They only said that might be the battery, bla bla bla....!!! Do you believe in Santa Claus??? I don't......!!!! Look....i never made some kind of OC, never removed the battery, never flashed BIOS, never removed the original DFI cooler from nF4, with the stock voltage.....and my FX, 2GB Patriot and the DFI Expert died!!! I'm waiting for another excuse from DFI......!!!!

    Regards

I didn't kill any hardware with mine, the 3 days I had it installed, but I just got an RMA # from DFI a few hours ago. Board wasn't stable running 3d stuff. I've got a thread going on it, so I won't bore with the details.
The board was from Monarch (serial #0000000094). Maybe it was some of the earlier boards that have the issues?
Bottom line is I RMA'd it and got it the heck out of my system before it had a chance to take anything out. It was all at stock, not a bit oc'd.

    Quote from DFI

Recently we have noticed there are some users having problem with LP UT RDX-200 DR-CF.

After we analyzed all available information. We found some users took off battery from motherboard to clear CMOS, However users should use Clear CMOS jumper to clear CMOS. Because LP UT RDX-200 DR-CF has more sophisticated design, and its’ battery provides power source not only to CMOS but also to a Power Controller. This design will allow motherboard to store some important power management settings, such as Vcore and some power protection settings. If users take off the battery on RDX-200, it does more than clear all the value in CMOS, the Power Controller will also suffers from power failure with the consequence of losing all the default setting stored inside.

Therefore let’s say it again, we strongly urge our users, “If you need to clear CMOS, please use Clear CMOS jumper to do so. Do not remove the battery on motherboard for clear CMOS purpose!”

Is it me or does that sound like crap? What happens when battery gets old and dies? Oh well power regulation now lost due to dead battery, bye bye cpu...

Sounds like crap to me, one would assume the baord would default to lowest default voltages. If not like you said when battery die so dose ya CPU.

I dont care how well they Overclock, never DFI for me again

Sounds like crap to me, what DFI are actually stating is the power controller must have its own little programmable CMOS chip, or actually built as part of the power controller IC

The power controller IC looks no different to any other IC I have seen, so how can this be ??, I think either DFI are telling great big porkies or something is being lost in translation

Sorry to hear that. I was thinking in buy a Expert but this sounds very bad. I'm not arranged to put in risk to my CPUs.

I wonder why DFI still quiet about this. Not even a little "damage control" statement.

It was not just a "say" it was pre release board. It really was. He and Tony both got them. IF OPB says it was I would whole heartedly belive in that. I know it was a pre-relase for a fact though.

Gee........What a CHEEPY excuse and explanation is that?......I DON'T believe my eyes reading that.......!......

ALL those years I ALWAYS remove the battery from ALL of the mobos that have passed through me......and NOTHING happent till now.......

I know it's hard for DFI to recall the mobos back now but at least find another excuse.......That's pathetic........Sorry but reading this, made me nervus......

Excuse me.......What does it mean: "Pre-released" ........Someone makes a product and send it to OTHERS to test it?......or someone makes a product, TEST it first and THEN send it to the others to test it?.......I thought that the company which makes something, test it, retested, retested, bla,bla,bla......and when they are SURE that this product is FULLY FUNCTIONAL, them they send it to others to test it too or sell it.....I missed something here or isn't that the way it goes?.....

IT means that the boards that Tony and OPB got were not the same board we are buying off the shelf. they are PRE release tester and review boards. Its Not about testing Its about a couple of hardcore guys that know lots about what they are doing and Oscar sending it to them for them to be able to do write ups here in the forums and the such.

Now as far as your FULLY functional statment.. hey anything can happen with Human hands. NOTHING IS PERFECT OR EVEN CLOSE. I think alot that we expect to much. Gee get more realistic about how things actually work. you can test and test and test but that still doesnt guarentee its gonna be perfect. Heck if they were we wouldnt ever need any Bios to flash or RMA or the likes. It boils down to $hit happens.. We just need to understand it and live with it. hell Ive lost hard ware from a PSU going bad and fried an entire system. It happens..

Yes you are right about that.......shi(f)t happens with hardware.......BUT not every day - I think - ......

And also that story that you have to hear to youre chipset before putting a cpu in the board.... thats some scary and unbelieveble stuff, and then the battery joke... man dfi come on.... They know that it aint that coz users that didnt do anything on the motherboard still get mem and/or cpu died. If there is a problem dfi. Anounce it on a proper way. Like "we made some big mistakes" or something like that. Its better to help youre customers then to let us think there crazy! This makes no good for youre company.

We all know its the motherboard itself. After the nf2 issue. After the 4v jumper issue(nf4), and now after dieing cpu's/mem(expert)... Aint this odd :P

Just help the victims and dont lie about some crazy jokes.

I dunno whats worse. Telling stories bout the cmos clear or having a mainboard
design which puts a few 1000$ of hardware in the hands of a little 1$ battery.

Thats ridiculous in my eyes. Even if they have no idea why the expert causes many cpus to die, they could at least say that they have no clue instead of telling bad stories...

So are you suggesting that the retail board was a re-design of the pre release board? or just a differing bios?
I find it hard to believe they completly re-jigged the design in such a sort space of time.

Also do you not think that replacing his CPU's would be the "right" thing to do, if like you suggest his was a PRE release ie beta board.

It would be easy for DFI to issue a statement claiming the PRE release was faulty and as a sign of good will, replace his lost CPU's. Making it clear that the retail board hasnt the problems that the Pre release had.

Still Im still yet to see them admit there was a cold boot/Ram death issue with the Ultra.

That number is on one of the two stickers on the outside of the box right? Just above the line "Warranty Void If Removed". Is this the actual production number? How is this different from the S/N number on the other sticker?

Hmmm ... just noticed one of my Ultra-D does not have a "Warranty Void If Removed" sticker. WTH? Someone firing up the production lines in the dead of night? Bootleg mobos? Lol.
