    P4GD1 and Dottie 2.0 Information/Help

Hello Everyone, ok, I have read the 2 threads that deal with Dothan, and the convertors, and have a slight poblem, which have not been talked about to much:

I have a new P4GD1 mobo, with 2.0 760 Dothan chip, and 479 convertor. I have flashed to bios 1005, and latest beta 1006, with same result. System works great, currently running old pci card, but when using overclocking toolz in WinXP (SP2), eg Clockgen, or SetFSB, my PCI and PCI-express bus increase.

This is set to fixed in Bios.....

Another thing, I can set my multi to 10X, then I should be able to set fsb to 200, and pci should return to 33, pci-Ex to 100mHz...they don't.

I have read Kamerat's thread, no real help. I am an experienced overclocker, but fail to see how Kamerat can set his multi low in Windows, then up his FSB to way past 200 without having pci/pci-ex issues?

Any secrets you guys want to share wrt this board? Will be appreciated.

All my settings are set according to Kamerat's, at least the important ones.

Thanx guys, would luv to get this sorted so I can supercool this little bugger. Mem is good old Mushkin LevelII black BH5's

    Br,
    MrBean.

As I understand it, locks dont work on that board. And he runs the high busses by increasing the northbridge voltage (I think).

Mmm...somehow it would be difficult to run any gfx at either pci-ex or pci bus so highly overclocked. Even at 200FB, PCI would run at 49mhz, and if PCI-Ex is preset to 90mHz in Bios, it would still run 135mHz, if left at 100, it would run 150mHz.

a Little more possible on the PCI-Express bus, but I really don't want to risk one of my 2 7800GTX cards.....

These mobo manufacturers makes me sad....1st the DFI-SLi debacle, now this from Asus....they clearly state these will work with the adapter, but it doesn't.

Short of sending the board back, I am wondering if we can play with Bus Select pins on the cpu to trick the Bios into thinking this is a 200FSB part, and not 133?

    Any advice/feedback/suggestions will be appreciated.

@ Bigtoe: Maybe you can have a chat with your closefriend that has ties with Asus to ask them what is up with these Bioses? It would be a great help if they can notify us if this will work in upcoming releases, or not, then at least we can plan a little better...please?

I don't really want to go back to AGP, as I have 2 7800 cards for my FX55 setup, so I want to use one to see if I can at least chase the singlecard 3dM03/05/Aq3 scores a little....

Otherwise I will have to get a 850 again, annd a P4C800-Deluxe mobo

Ah well, life is good, mofo-manufacturers sucks sometimes.

    Thanx Guys.

Boot at 200FSB and your bootstrap will be triggered at that point i.e. PCIe is fixed, same with PCI. While Kamerat was able to OC high, I don't agree much on his PCIe computation and used my PCIe computation.

Just to experiement with PCI/PCIe on this mobo, I used my 2.4c which is able to hit 280FSB on Asus P4C800 and P4P800 before. With all the settings on Auto, I just change the FSB and hit about 255FSB rock stable before trying to fiddle around with PCI and PCIe values. And btw, I am using an Inno3D 6600 128Mb PCIe VC for that.

    Thanx Death_Metal, suspected as much

I need to mount the Vapo to be able to boot the 760 at 200 (x15), but that is ok then. I just thought that setting FSB from within Windows will also set pci/pci-ex to defaults again....obviously not.

Things would be so easy if the Multi-select work from within the bios...I will look at getting cheapish 6600 PCI-Ex card like you to play with.Thanx for you reply though.

Anyway, below some info I gathered from Mobile datasheet over at Intel...might help a few guys playing with their own setups. Use it, don't use it, no problem. Just copied some important info and pasted to text file.

Yes , would be much easier . I`m surprised that we still don`t have a bios with multi enabled for this mobo . I just ordered a 7800 gtx to use with this mobo also ......from what i`ve heard it is pretty safe untill 240 fsb (there is a buch of guys running at 240 24/7 no dead VGAs so far ) . It is sad having to choose a 730/740 chip to be able to lock the PCI bus , i have 770 here

    @ Toledo:
I managed once or twice to get this mobo to boot with my 7800GTX Gigabyte card, but only when hitting delete on boot.....

I have made a few setting changes now in the Bios, and will try the card again.

    Any advice here?

I'm not sure that ClockGen shows the right PCI-E and PCI frequencies, it's even a notice on the cpuid.org site for that version of ClockGen:
    P5GD1
    P5GD2 (*)
    P5GDC (*)

(* ClockGen may report wrong PCI Express / PCI frequencies on these boards, as they use a different model of clock generator).
The version of ClockGen we are using is for the ICS954119 clock generator, the P4GD1 uses ICS954123(BF). Maybe this is the issue?

    Hi Kamerat,
Yeah, I saw that, and I downloaded a beta version of SetFSB, but still, when upping my FSB, my pc would crash at around 39-41mHz on the PCI bus...I am using old PCI card.

Which Bios do you recommend, I have tried both on Asus's website, 1005 and 1006 beta.

Do you know anything about a 1.07 Beta2 bios for this board?

Secondly, did you also experience bad issues trying to get pci-ex gfx to boot?
Thanx for your replies, it is appreciated

What is the maximum fsb are you getting in windows without crash ?

@ Toledo: I can do around 2200mhz at default vcore, fsb then around 143mHz.....can do SuperPI without issues, but even increase in vcore doesn't help.

I 100% believe it is my PCI speeds giving me nonsense. Asus better get this board sorted, they really sell bad products lately. I forever had issues with their Mobo's, really bad Bioses, which is what kills them. So sad, because it has so much potential.

2 things on this board are bad: non-working locks, and iffy PCI-Ex support.

Don`t you have a PM730 ? You can try boot at 200+ and see what happens .

Only the 760. I believe the 200fsb will be fine, once you boot of it and it initializes proper speeds from Bios. But, still the busses will be all over the place once you start to use SetFSB or Clockgen.

I should be able to but at 15x200 later in the week, when I sort my cooling setup out. Phase should take me there.

Exactly the same issues here with my P4GD1 + 760.. though i can run unbelievable 150fsb I can run my system with radeon x850xt pci-e.

I´ve ordered P4C800-E Deluxe and x800xt pe with voltmodds already in place, maybe the 760 will run on that board because i can set the multi lower straight from the bios.

Yes, I remember you complaining about the same problem . It is weird Dothans struggling to do hit 2200 . I hope you have better luck with your P4C

    Terve Sume4,
Quick question: I am really struggling to get this board to POST with any 1 of either my BFG 7800GTX, or my Gigabyte 7800GTX. Normal old PCI-GFX card works fine though.

I must hit the reset button about 10-15 times, every time the system fans will start, then GFX fan will start, speed down, and after a couple of times, it will beep and POST.

This is with both 2.4B Northwood, Bios 1002, 1003, 1005, 1006beta, and on the Dottie with Bios 1005, 1006beta.

I am on the verge of sending this board back to my supplier, which will be a few days round trip, for another P4GD1....but, if this problems is in all P4GD1's, it is really pointless to get another 1. Instead then I should get a P4C800, and make a plan for a X850XT or similar

So, can I have input please, from any one using this board, if you are experiencing PCI-Express GFX card boot issues? If not, what GFX are you using?

Your help will be highly appreciated, Guys.

    Thanx!

I'd suggest testing another cpu first... Preferably one with a lower multiplier to see whether the cpu has not it's impact there as well. To find a C1 Dothan which acts just like a B1 one (no high fsb), and cannot run over 2200 mhz, it must be something special there and the motherboard might not be the only one at fault.

As for the PCI/PCI-E cards, I'm using a PCI one until a serious PCI-E beast arrives, had one cold boot (board didn't initialize video) at the very beginning, but Reset button fixed it and it has not came back since.

@ mrlobber: Thanx for the reply. The other cpu I have tried with exactly same results wrt PCI-Ex video initialization, was in fact a P4B Northwood CPU, not a Dothan.

I have not tried to push the cpu at all, because even with my Northwood, the system locks up when pushed pass 143fsb...and that cpu can do 3.4gig on air. Both 7800GTX's are new, I have proven their 100% functionality in my FX55/DFi-SLi-DR, since I sold that, my FX55/Abit-AN8-Sli setups.

    So, to recap:
Used Twinmos BH5, Mushkin BH5, OCZ Rev2 TCCD, and Mushkin TCC5
    Used P4 Northwood (Bios 1002, 1003, 1005, 1006beta)
    Used Dottie 760 9Bios 1005, 1006beta)
    Used Gigabyte 7800GTX, BFG 7800GTX
Used Enermax 600W, Aopen 530W (Fortron) and Antec 550W PSU's

The only GFX that this board inits everytime, is the old SIS PCI card. So, only other variable not replaced is mobo. It might be this board have issues with 7800GTX cards, I am sending it off tomorrow to my supplier, very nice guy, I asked him to dump his X850 in, and fire the board up a few times.

If it fails to init PCI-Ex properly, he will get a new board, and test it same way, before shipping it to me. If that fails, I will get P4C800-Deluxe, and focus on SuperPI. Was really hoping giving the Top10 a bit of a try again, managed it on several occassions before, but really hoped for a good bench session with single 7800.

CO2/LN2 tubes ready, VapoLS ready, so yeah.

    Board ready = not.

    Any inputs ideas?

    Hi Toledo,
Soz man, didn't want to give you worries

Thanx for the replies though, I will send it back to my supplier for a few tests. Probably the board, one thing I have noticed though, is when it fails to initialize several times, once it actually boots into windows, there will be small white single pixels all over the screen, like on normal pixel, one white pixel, horizontal, and vertical.

Then it will find new hardware, reload driver, and screen goes back to normal. Just wish I had a scope to measure bus frequency on the PCI-Ex bus when this happens.

But, I will have a new board hopefully by Saturday, and give some more feedback. Here's to hoping this is really the board, and that I can get a working specimen. Then forward to 200X15

Just got my setup up last night
All setting were configured in the Bios
    Dothan 730 (Stock HSF) + P4GD1 + 2 x 512MB BH5 + 6800GT

BTW Mr Bean try configure those setting in the bios 1st
I tried Clockgen and EIST initially, it only make things worse
After getting the sweet, then this is what u will see in clockgen etc

    Am i off topic?

    Hi DFX,
Thanx for the tips. I will be getting my 2nd VapoLS quite soon, and I am expecting a new P4GD1 mobo by the weekend.

I send my one back, my supplier should give some feedback tomorrow evening, but I am pretty confident something seriously wrong with PCI-Ex bus signalling.

Once I have Vapo connected, I should be able to boot the 2gig cpu at 15x200, then I can give some more feedback.

Anyway, you're not off-topic, it is nice to see what other guys can do with similar setups. Anyway, you had some good, relevant input

    Hello,
    I have a dothan 760 and a p4c800-e deluxe and I want to buy a p4gd1 for pcie.
If I can boot at 200*15 my pcie and pci would be locked fine ?
If I can't boot at 200 but lower (180) my pcie can't lock fine ?
    thanks
