Cool Return of a Legend - no, not me: AMD FX-8300, 95W TDP 8 core awesomeness :D

Greetings, fellow AMD combatants! The return of a legend: AMD FX! I never had one of the old legendary models, so this is my attempt in making up for that

After successfully, but unintentionally derailing Zeus' combat thread with noobish explanations and bad attempts of self defence, I had the brilliant idea to start a threat on my very own, so the mess I will be leaving behind will stay contained inside this thread hopefully without any collateral damage.

Apart from receiving the CPU from AMD Germany I didnt do anything yet ( H U G E thanks in this way again for letting me get my hands on it!) - you are the very best!

Ok, wrong, I took a fancy teaser pic in order to show you at least something, so here it is without further ado:

Sorry again, Zeus - feel free to start any flamewars of your likeing in my thread as payback!

Ok, now that I have some time on my hands (mainly for the reason my lovely mother of boards or "the Entitiy" as I call the thing as a whole refuses to show me some love, even though I am still being real nice). Anyways, I moaned enough about the board pretty much just for hiding the fact that I have no clue about the "latest" hardware evolution, latest being the last 3 years. I had lot's of fun overclocking my AMD setups in order to get the best possible performance out of my cheap, no let's call it "cost effective" (ok "dirt cheap" to be exact) gaming rigs with the pupil/student budget I was on (and more or less still am - some things never change). I would love to present you some of that meaningless numbers on mostly aircooling with the help of the universe having freezing temperatures in winter, but unfortunately apart from a couple survivors, most of my memories and pics were flushed down the toilet, when the Hwbot staff decided to kick out all results with screenshots not showing the requested tools (that simply didnt exist by the time I achieved those results xD).

After reading XS for a little over 2 years in order to get used to the English language, relearning the vocabulary of the stuff I already knew and the part that consumed the most amount of lifetime: trying to figure out what kind of planet people from this board actually came from. -197C, liquid nitrogen, TEC-Cooling, kaskades and the kind of wording doesnt exactly ring a bell, if you are young, naiv, 18 years old and have the knowledge where water cooling is the top of the line, being way out of your league. Eventually, after 2 years, I figured most of it out to get a rough picture on how things work and so I was finally brave enough to register and start asking the most silliest of questions that you can imagine. Joining the folding team and getting to know so many people of which I dont even want to try and name 40 of them, simply because I wouldnt do justice to the other 30 who I forgot, but who are no less important. It was a great time, we laughed together, we cried together, we insulted each other, we fought together and we managed to ramp up the yearly power consumption from 3,000 kWh to 12,600 kWh. No, wait that was just me alone. Jeez, was my dad angry about that. Sorry dad and since the chances of you ever rerading this, I want to confess: it has not been the broken freezer in the basement, that thing ran perfectly fine and seeing how you measured the power consumption of every electronical device in the house was somewhat funny and scary at the same time. I would do it any time again, it was for a good cause. 1st) generating meaningless numbers on a huge chart with lots of more numbers and names while getting a nice and colorful piece of cake every day for it - jummy and 2nd) for trying to find cures for exactly the deseases my grandparents suffered and died from. You should have become suspicious when noticing that I always had the window in my room fully open and still having tropical temperatures with the heater being off - in the middle of December. Plus the noise of 3 starting jets. I feel relieved, now that the truth is out.

It has been a fun time. I used every old piece of hardware I had collected for crunching, highly inefficient, but it worked. My poor little Sempron 2800+ was on full load for almost 3 years with next to no downtime and without heat spreader running at this speed: http://hwbot.org/submission/569005_f...29_3204.58_mhz

I did some more benching every now and then in the following years and one of the last or even the last result I uploaded to Hwbot was this one http://hwbot.org/submission/891973_f...65_be_6710_mhz before I entered the crystasis, which kept me away from any sort of overclocking or benching for more than 3 years. I dont want to say, be easy on me, I pretty much just started overclocking, thus doing everything wrong that I can possibly do wrong, but hiding that fact wont make me happy in the long run, so let it all out. Be honest, be rude, let out whatever is on your mind

That was way too much text but now it sits there, would be a shame to delete it. During my absence from this planet being busy coping with some terrible thing called real life, I sold or gave away most of my freaky OC gear along with my single stage, bench tables, etc, so I am back to the very basics. Still have my LN2 containers though which might come in handy later one - lets see. Now, before posting any results, I have to wait for the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z which I am patiently awaiting from Asus Germany (thanks a lot for helping me out on this!). With the boards I tried to live along with, I split up in no time. The boards hated me at last as much as I didnt like them, so hopefully the 3rd board is a real keeper. Otherwise I am even way worse at this stuff than I already think.

I will post results as soon as I can, so stay tuned for more, enjoy your stay, go nuts, go wild, feel yourself at home here!
