I mean, by all means vote with your wallet, it ain't my money, but I don't see the 10-15% (lower with 2560x1600) being worth 25% more expense + 100W more power load, especially since I leave my computer on 24/7 for various programs

Unless those various programs involve gpu related work the idle consumption differences are negligible.
