Odd.....Have Vista and haven't had to reboot after installing new Catalyst drivers in a loooong time....honestly, cannnot remember the last time installing new Cat. drivers required a reboot. And always have installed the new ones without uninstalling the old. Do the same on my XP machine, same outcome....no reboot required, not uninstall/reinstall crap.
Catalyst drivers just uninstall themselves and then install the new ones...no drama, no rebooting, nothing. They just work and have been for a long time now.

Every time I've tried "over-the-top" installs with CCC I get problems like no crossfire or no CCC. I don't do it and I don't recommend it for nVidia either (I used to get BSODs after over-the-top installs with nVidia hardware).
