demographics perhaps and many cases such as mine where I've not bothered to report with steam since upgrading. Either way GTX 280-285s have sold well enough to hold their $300-400 pricepoint for almost a year now.

Yeah right. Bottom line is that HD48xx has outsold compred to GT200 based cards by fair margin, among the gamers. Of course one could argue that not everybody reports with steam, or that steam does not regocnize all the cards, or that it's just coincidence!
