This is referring to a mod I did on a Dell 8400 to make my p4 630 run at a 1066 fsb and 4 ghz

    Dell 9300 1.6@2.13 ghz 1 gig ddr2 533 fsb, geforce 6800go for about $950

    Dell 8400 630 @ 4 ghz EE, 160 gig, 512 mb ddr2, x300se 2 X 17" LCDs dvd burner and dvd rom $650

HTPC: shuttle sn85g4v3 3000+ DTR, radeon 9600XT, ATI TV wonder pro, dvd burner 512 DDR around $450

630 can do 4ghz quite easily...i dont see the point ??

But yea, that's what you get for buying a dell instead of getting an overclocking mobo

The point is being able to pay $350 for a loaded system or $650 for a loaded system + 2 17" LCDs and still getting the performance boost, by finding a way to OC. Yah sure you can take the easy way out and buy a mobo for $200+ that will change voltage, fsb, and even multipliers on some chips and have it easy but what would be the fun of that?

For example Dell just had a 9100 you could purchase for around $700 that included:

    17" LCD
    955 chipset mobo
    p4 630
    geforce 6800
    1 gig ddr2 533 fsb
    160 gig SATA HD
DVD burner + more such as WinXP

and for those that want to get a very nice system for $700ish, you can't do better than the above especially considering the 630 will OC to 4 ghz. Or alternatively you could get an 820 that might be able to hit 3.73 ghz

And sure solder modding a mobo takes some ballz, but when was the last time you saw some1 solder a processor? Probably back in the slot A days when you were soldering on the PCB

    Agreed

    Very nice man.

Edit: Post a pic on imageshack. I am interested to see that...

    ROFL at FCG lol

It's half true you know But yea if its not an EE, it's false advertising to say that it is. That's like getting a 3700+ sandiego, clocking it to 2.8 and calling it an fx-57 just because it has 1MB cache too

Interesting...how come your "d.a.m.n" didnt go all banana

Actually, you're wrong LOL! and he's right. It just proves that this version of the EE is bogus. There's nothing but a FSB that *truely separates the EE from all other Prescotts. Shame on Intel for pulling such a stunt. Even as I'm getting called an Intel employee and etc., that's BS!

With that said, calling it an EE is nothing to brag about anyway. There ain't a damned thing extreme about it. Sort of the same joke as calling the Built in Gras Xtreme

quite easily... on what voltages? auto?

I'm really interested to know, wanna see what my rig might be able to do. But only interested in all day 100% cpu load.
Signature? are you kidding? with new stuff coming out every day, why bother ?

Go to intel's website and look at the white sheet for p4.

FSB is determined by the settings of BSEL0, BSEL1 and BSEL2
    for 800 fsb they are L H L respectively (L = low resistance/grounded, H = high resistance)
for 1066 fsb they are L L L so you have to ground BSEL1, therefore you can make a connection between BSEL1 and BSEL2 to ground BSEL1.
My original idea for doing this was to use a conductive pen. I ran this by my brother in law who has a masters in electrical engineering, and he thought those pens were crap. He then proceeded to just solder the two contacts on the processor. Throw the processor back in the mobo and you have 4 ghz. Note we were also able to undo the solder (It didn't boot the first time, but I later figured out the mobo wasn't put back properly and Dell's don't like this - solder was redone and it has been at 4 ghz since).

Oh and I wouldn't call an OCed 3800+ an FX and the like, but thats cuz FX's OC like crazy and use different silicone. The EE's however don't OC that much better than the 6xx series processors anyways. Sour Grapes to those who shell out for the EE

This works for any 6** cpu, I don't know about 5** cpu's; you have to take a look at the datasheets at intel.com

It's a cool mod, very good find

Me and onother is realy interrested in overclocking...and he have tried al oc programs and mabye even hurt the pll chip....but nothing have workt. So he bougt a new motherboard.....4030mhz max and 3930mhz bench stabil.
And i reeeealy want to beat him!
I have read throw this http://download.intel.com/design/Pen...s/30235104.pdf
    Take a look at 2.9!
    L H L = 200fsb
    L L H = 133fsb
    And al other is "Reserved"
Hopefully L L L= 266fsb but i dont want to be the one to try?!Anyone?

sorry to revive an old thread, but is there any difference in terms of stability and performance to modding the cpu to run on 1066fsb in comparrison to raising the fsb to 1066 in the bios?

He did the mod because dell boards dont have FSB adjust option in the bios.

How much voltage does the CPU takes now to make it stable?

EDIT: You should really use Macro for taking that pic
