    K8N Neo2 Platinum install problems

Hey guys - just got my new Neo2 Platinum board and my Athlon 64 FX55 in. Unfortunately - its not working to my liking. I hooked everything up properly, installed my vapochill and had everything connected. I turned it on, vapochill powered up, began to cool to the negatives. At -10c computer turns on to nothing but 2 second beeps every 2 seconds. So, i turn it off, figuring it may be the memory, take it out of CHB and put it in CHA. Turn it on, works fine. I get into the bios and it sees 1gig of ram, yet only recognizes single channel and says its at 133mhz and at extremely loose timings. The memory i have is G.Skill PC4400 rated at 2-2-2-5 at PC3200 and 2.5-3-3-7 at PC4400. Samsung TCCD chips - i've seen many reviews with this board and it has worked perfectly. Either way, i went to try and lower the timings and it rebooted and got nothing but beeps again. So i turn it off, attempted to reset CMOS - and turned it on. Vapochill cools to -10, then tries to turn on the rest of hte computer. At that stage, it can't turn the rest of the computer on. I tried even unplugging power from the vapochill and hooking up the mobo as if it were a regularly cooled computer - no boot. I then tried to jump the PSU to make sure i didn't blow it - it turned on. Its an OCZ PowerStream 520W and the green light came on and fans were spinning. So right now i'm stuck in the mud and i'm really anxious to get this rig up and running. Please let me know what to do!! Thanks!

hmmm always try a new cpu with air cooling first to make sure its all running fine and the cooling is not the problem!

it sounds like your cooling isnt the problem though... honestly... i have no idear what the problem might be... try one stick only and test everything, every part, bit by bit...

My experiance with FX55 and MSI neo2 is nothing but great performance since i got it 4 days ago. When comes to overclocking, I can't even run 210fsb with 2x512 pc3500c2 bh5 ram stable. Everytime i try to run 2001 3d mark it pauses then get a graphical glitch. I'm starting to assume this board doesnt even have its AGP locked. I know that its not my ram because i tested it with Memtest and passed even at 220fsb 2-2-2-6 timings. I'm extremelly dissapointed with this board. Everything stock runs Fine , try to oc even by 10fsb it freaks out, last time i crashed and rebooted thewindows reported an error coming from my 6800gt. AGP is probably running out of spec. Very dissapointed. Whats even more shocking to me is even at everything stock 13x200 , if i just raise my cpu voltage to say 1.55 or 1.6v and if i try to run 2001 mark it would freeze. Something is really wrong with this mobo when overclocked. Reading review sites i see they getting like 2.8-3.0ghz on Air and i can't even get 2.7ghz running. This plain sucks.

Err so you only have it in one channel when it's a dual channel board?
You need the ram in slots 1 & 2. (closest to CPU)
That bank 1 and 2 which will give you dual channel.

AGP is probably running out of spec.
Most get best results with the AGP frequency @ 67

Thanks for all the reply's everyone - i have found out...it was my power supply. I threw a buddy's PSU in there and it booted up without a hitch - so time to call OCZ and take advantage of the 5-year warranty Sucks cause i really wanted to make this bad boy fly Anyways - thanks for the info Split about the dual channel - i assumed the board was like a P4 board and the two teals were dual channel and the two purples were the other dual channel - guess its a teal and purple for one channel and another teal and purple for the other? Thanks for the help all

Hmm... Same sympton I had with winchester 3200+ on the board with prommy. In fact I do have OCZ 520 too. I will grab the rest of stuff again and grab spare PSU to test out...Maybe it is not issue with winchester but PSU. But... I am already on 2nd Powerstream now. (First one went out with smoke for no apparent reason)... I will find out soon enough.

Mike, don't fret, you should be fine - my powerstream only died because it got shorted by a hard drive - so there was some rhyme and reason for the thing dying - however, other than this, it has been great to me - stable as hell rails, awesome, awesome power supply.

mike.elmes - i just bought mine and it was revision 1 as well so i'm pretty sure they're all revision 1 - from what i've heard MSI's board is the best overclocker, but it requires a lot of tweaking to get it that way. So, with some time and effort, you wil have a kick ass rig - on my front however, i spoke with OCZ and a new PSU has already been shipped to me! Yay!

Crossing my fingers. My OCZ unit had same problem but I never tried diff PSU. (Air testing was done on totally diff PSU... so it might not have been cooling that wouldn't worked on my case). Anyways, I think my 2nd 520W Powerstream is not all it can be. I just picked up Ultra X connect 500W and played with it in my rig and... funny enough got 50mhz more on CPU oc and 20mhz more core on GPU overclock. Something just doesn't sound right does it? Once I get the winchester 3500 tomorrow, I've got 3 PSU, 2 mobos, and few diff brand of memory to test out what works and what doesn't. Currently I have some suspicion on my powerstream being on the "doesn't" part. At least, I know for fact RMA process is quick and painless.

Wasn't OCZ... 3 diff PSU should confirm to that.
Wasn't particular mobo (or all of them). 4 mobo total should say something (3 MSI 1 giga)
Most likely... it was the darned CPUs (3 of winchesters, 2 3200+ 1 3500+) Starting to think I should have just gone FX... :P
