Thanks for that ... I am trying to get an insight into the performance differences in the real world of 7950 and 7970.

I oc'd mine (7950) having taken the view that this is likely only for 3 months this time around and the difference in power is not permanent. I want to sell my 5870's and buy another 79xx. Just now I am thinking of another 7950 due to the price differential.

1 card dong 100K + Boinc is such a step change that I want to upgrade regardless of the short duration.

I'll take full credit for that machine. First rig in my sig. Gigabyte Windforce3 7950 running @1000/1000. Started at 8 WU, but switched this morning to 9 WU.

Did you check the wattage this rig is using? That is always one of my main concerns when upgrading. It is nice to have something powerfull, but you have to be able to run it 24/7.

~302W on the Kill-A-Watt a the wall. This is for the whole sysem though...so -40W for monitor and -5W for speakers = ~257W when sitting there crunching alone.

My output will be a little low today. My main rig got stuck on 4 WU's again. I checked that rig this morning before leaving for work, and now I come home and see 4 WU's stuck for 10 hours. That happened less than 15 minutes after I checked this morning.

Hmmmm... seems I picked up 2 new helpers as well.... It confused me for a bit as I have a i7 920 in the house but it is DOA and needs a new MB I did double check it as I swear I didn't fix it while I was drunk installing the 7950s Same problem with the Xeon that showed up I have 2 of them in a dead Skulltrail MB. Here I am running around making sure I didn't mange to fix up other boxes in the house while I was inebriated....

Whoever it is thank you, once I moved past being attacked by zombie CPUs it made me smile... we all have our reason to do what we do... mine is hard to talk about but the short version is I'm 38 I've lost 16 family members to cancer to date for the number people that's almost 2 a year. It is why I do what I can when I can how ever I can.
