Thanks for the heads up Oldchap, I sure hope they get some more work for HCC!

I MUST reach my goal for HCC (my sick sisters age + yrs. to live (she's terminal)).
Do you guys think if I add HFCC to HCC that is acceptable, or is it cheating? I figure if they find a cure for Childhood Cancer it should help them with an over all cure, so I'm thinking adding the two is acceptable?

Should never have gone for those other badges

Johnmark, I'm sure a few people would be willing to throw some hardware on your account if you're worried about that. PM me your weak account key and I'll see what I can do.

Same - I only have access to change my dual core laptop's key, but if you send me the key i'll add it. Might be able to get my 2600k on there as well, but can't promise that as idk when I'll get to mess with it next.

I can throw my 4.7Gig 2600K and 3.2Gig 1055T on there as well. There, that's already 30 cores we're throwing at you (or almost three years of work in the next month). Last time I asked for help I got sixteen six core CPUs from trn

THANK YOU for the offers guys,REALLY appreciate it!!
Want to do this on my own though, personal thing.
I can do it if my logic of adding the two is sound ? HFCC+HCC=crunching for cancer, right?

HCC 41:026:21:46:50 + HFCC 13:155:21:16:53 =54:181 and my goal is to get to 58 minimum. ~

What do u think, is it cheating or not

They're both cancer work, no question about that. Were you crunching for the previous cancer project. Help Defeat Cancer? That may provide some more run time for your total. Other than that all I can suggest is using EVERY trick in the book to improve system efficiency (gains you more hours crunching time per calendar day) and bringing every outdated system you can lay your hands on up. A single core 2.4GHz P4 still brings in about 24hrs crunching time a day. It's no quad socket HTT hexacore beast, but when you're after every last hour you can lay your CPUs on ...

Tell you what, since I can't help you crunch, I'll stop crunching HCC units (ie move to another sub-project) so there's a few more left in the pot for you before the project ends. It's a token effort for sure, but it's about all I can do to help so ...

If you want to crunch for someone else there's a couple of options. First you can talk them into handing over their user name and password, then you just detach BOINC from your own account and join the project using their credentials. Couldn't be easier ... except it gives you control of their account should you choose to abuse their trust.
A safer, and just as effective option, if for them to give you their "weak key", which is a dirty great string of characters. By putting this string of characters in the right place in the right config file your system will start crunching for the other guy without giving you access to their account settings. Slightly less easy than the first method but it affords the account owner with more privacy, control of their details and prevents spectacular douchbagery on the part of the volunteer (which has been known to happen though I'd be REALLY surprised to see it here).

    OK, got that, Thanks.

I have dropped out of HCC, HCMD and HFCC. I have the badges so, apart from what is in cache, I'll leave what's left for those in need.

Off Topic (but what's new about that here) DA, You mentioned learning some new stuff....Have you played at all with "Rocks"? Want to help me try to run it over the next few weeks?

I used to describe my computers as "rocks" due to their age. It spawned a couple of amusing (at the time) pictures as well. Post a link and I'll have a look.

Ok, Johnmark. I just handed back ("aborted") 44 pages of HCC work so they'll be reallocated. Crunch them well.

    Thank You

I'm increasing the cache on all machines to 10 days, and putting the Core Duo lappy online. So that will be 66 threads running, which should mean 66 days of crunching time per 24hrs, is that right?

If you're adding all the cancer projects I don't think you'll have an issue at all as there should be a HCC GPU client next, and after that there's bound to be another Cancer project.

They'll keep making them and we'll keep crunching them till there's no more cancer...

Here is the official info from WCG for the end of project for HCMD2 (posted Jan 26, 2012):
    https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.or...d_thread,32499

Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Phase 2 - 18 days left of new work
    Hello all,

This is the official statement saying there is an estimated 18 days left of new work to be sent out. In addition, we will be changing the way work units are distributed for this project. Previously priority was given to work units that were children/grandchilden of the original parent work units. We will be changing this to give priority to parent work units (so these will be sent prior to children/grandchild work units). This will allow for a more consistent supply of hcmd2 work units until the end of the project.

Thank you for all your help and support with this project!

I feel your pain. I got into this from the intense images of watching my grandmother die painfully from Cancer back in the mid 60's.
I run just the HCC and HFCC WU
What I want to say is that I beleive that if HCC "stops" it will be replaced by a newer Cancer app that will essentially be step 3.
They learned from step1 and then chaged the "questions" that were being asked in step2(HCC)
It's far from over my friend.

There's going to be another HCC phase, they're just working on a GPU client to take over from the current CPU client. I suppose you COULD say that they'll be winding up HCC, but only on CPU. Both clients will, apparently co-exist for a short while.

Well, I'm not going to hit my Saphire badge on that one (1:196:12:16:14)
Have it for HFCC and was working towards it on both HCMD2 and HCC. I decided to stop on HCMD2 and run only HCC to at least try to get that one before it runs it's course.

Sounds like the beta for a new project started today! Here's hoping it's to replace the cancer projects we're finishing!

And do we have a timeline on the GPU thing? Or any idea at all really?

"Early 2012" is as close as I remember seeing. Not exactly a precise date, I know.

Yeah there's some CPU beta work dropping here and there. I haven't got any as yet. Another project will get me into the "20 badge club" or whatever it's called.

So it looks like they added more HFCC WUs and HCC hasn't gone down at all... HCMD2 is dwindling though... 19 days for those of you needing this still.
