The 970 should be like 350$, the 980X 700$, and the 990X 1000$ ... I know how fresh and new the six-cores are, but there is no reason they should cost as much as an entire computer.

I hear the 990x will release at $1149.00 and the day they sell 970's for $350.00 the XS WCG team will order 200 of them!

Are you hearing $1149 MSRP or is that launch day e-tailor price gouging included?

How can you guys afford to do this stuff?! When I show the forums to my friends, I'm constantly pointing out things like:

"This dude's CPU cost more than my entire PC"
"This dude's GPUs cost more than my entire PC"
"This dude's RAM cost more than my entire PC"
"This dude's motherboard cost 3 times as much as mine did"
"This dude's storage setup cost is comparable to that of a Fortune 500 company"
"This dude spent more time perfecting this case than I have playing tennis... he deserves a varsity letter!"

Have any of you guys started with budget builds and then started becoming enthusiasts?

So you prob. have about 100k$ worth of machines there, how you manage to pay those machines.
I can spend about 1500euros a month for any new hardware i might need.

I only have 2 dual-cpu Xeon X5680 servers, 2 older amd systems, i7 980x system, Xeon X5680 gaming machine and phenom 2 1090 machine and htpc.

Anyway impressive criminal, good chip, my i7 980x is crap, 4.5gh linx stable air and 4.8ghz max without load.

    its fresh news
$999 is the right price for a XE

just remember QX6770 was a bad move from Intel...$1400 ...
My personal feeling that the "right" price would be $500-600 for the 970 and add a $150 premium for the unlocked XE models.

I can spend about 1500euros a month for any new hardware i might need.

    I only have 2 dual-cpu Xeon X5680 servers, 2 older amd systems, i7 980x system and phenom 2 965be machines and htpc.
    No,no where near that much.
    Systems:
SR2 rig: Investment of maybe $2500.00
There are factors in that as the board, case, memory and PSU were given to me.
Dual 24 core AMD MC system: $750.00
The cpu's were a gift, an unexpected one.
    Dual Westmere:$2000.00
    Board was a review sample
    Sammy: Maybe $300.00 total
New 6 core Intel I just built;board, cpu and memory arrived in a box 2 weeks ago as a gift from a good friend.Totally unexpected.
    Maybe $250.00 into that build.
If I had to go and buy all of this retail it wouldn't be here as no way in hell could I afford all of this.
