I really like what you have done so far mate. This is going to be an excellent build.
I completely agree. You've done some very nice work on that HDD holder, it's an awesome idea . The whole project is looking great.

    Great build

I am very interested in this case and the HDD "cage" is a brilliant idea. But How did you attached the rails to the top of the case?

    Thanks

nice project! love your idea with dvd drive - it is not neccessary most of the time and doesn't waste front panel design etc. but when it is needed it is here, great

i used assembly / sign makers tape (double sided of course)

sadly i had no time to continue with this project so far and the fact that dell is dragging their feet on my new laptop (already delayed by 3 weeks and now cancelled ) isn't helping either as i don't have a backup machine for myself now and need the PC for some CAD work...

maybe i'll get a new lenovo T410 next week so i can disassemble my "benchtable" and continue to work on the build

I've been contemplating a watercooled SFF build in a v351. I think I'm going to use your ideas - the DVD drive on top the PSU and and one or both of your radiator mounts. I might do 1x120 and 2x120 radiators just to give my beginner self some more space.

    Excellent work.

the e6410 arrived 20 days early so i can continue the work on tis project

today i did a first testrun with WC installed and found some significant shortcomings:

HDD mount: while perfectly suited for greenpowers the samsung F1 are too much for the decoupling; they have to go and make room for 2 new 1.5TB greenpowers

PUMP: the laing DDC is waaaayyy too loud for me as this PC is going to stay in my sleeping room; i'll switch over to a innovatek PCPS pump which is supposed to be 100% inaudible and should provide around 0.4-0.6 gpm (while this is by no means highend it should be more than enough for 3.8ghz on my phenom II as the true is enough for this overclock); additionally i'll mount the pump externally on the back to get some room for other extras (display / IR receiver or somethinglike that)

Tubing: the 7/16" id masterkleer tubing is a pita to route in this small space and will make room for 11/8mm tygon tubing

Upgradeability: i'll add 2 QDCs so i can slide out the whole tray + pump without draining the whole rig

If the pump (I'm presuming the 9W version) is touching any part of the case, it can (and likely is), transmitting vibrations which make it sound a whole lot louder than it is. Judging by the pics earlier in the topic, I'd say that there is a good chance of this being your problem.

Also, what did you put under the pump? What is it's Durometer rating?

i put the pump in ~2-3cm of bubble wrap which is more than enough to dampen my 5 y/o external drive and there is 0 vibration transferred to the case...

my issue is that the pc is standing on my desk to the right of the keyboard so the pump is only 30cm away from m y ear and i am used to dead silent systems (the loudest part inside this build is a 2-times decoupled western digital green power; all fans run @700rpm because they annoy me at a higher speed)

i guess that the DDC is the wrong pump for my needs (that is complete silence) and according to some tests the Eheim PCPS is completely silent and inaudible...

will post some pics on tuesday-wednesday when the new SSD + pump + tubing + coolant + sata cables + greenpowers arrive

DDC's are easy to shut up, a piece of rubber does the trick, definately with a 10w DDC (mcp350)

What did you use to cut the holes for your radiator? A drill for a starter hole and a jig saw? I used a Dremel for holes in my other case and I wasn't pleased with how they turned out... going to try jig saw on this one.

Do you think you could stack your two radiators on the front, so it would look like 4 fans? I am thinking about removing the 5.25" bays completely, and mounting my radiators to the front of the case like you, barbs on the left side for both. It's hard for me to explain what I want to do... Could you maybe dry fit with your radiators, because I have the same ones?

@Oli4v: the pump compartment is 13x10x10cm for botht he pump and the res; no way to properly dampen it; so i went with a dead silent inaudible weaker pump which doesn't need any isolation at all to be inaudible (= eheim PCPS)

@Polizei: all holes were cut with a dremel @ 80% speed with glass fiber reinforce cutting wheels; just let the dremel do the work and don't push too hard; i did all holes with only 1 Wheel!; just make the hole 1-3mm smaller and after cutting pull away your masking tape and remark the required cuts with a permanent marker; then use your file (a very wide and flat one is perfect) and continue filing until the permanent marker is gone (you can also use a non permanent one and mark it outside of your cutting area)

small picture with the current WC test setup:

Note the small pump compartment; this is before adding ~5 layers of bubble wrap under the pump which removed all vibrations transfered to the case but was no help against the noise coming from the pump
additionally there is no room left to route the sata cables to the hdd bay...
the new pump is this one:

    Eheim PCPS

it's supposed to be the most quiet pump out there and should be enough for my low restriction loop (enough = 0.4-0.6 gpm = not high performance)
tubing is going to be smaller too as i already sold the 1/2" bitspower barbs (the thick tubing is a pita in this case; i went with 7/16" OD tubing (11/8mm)which is much more flexible and able to take tighter bends

Altough it fit's well in there, But I could even silence a 18w ddc with just a simple layer of rubber ...

Atm my 2 MCP355 are even making my whole desk trilling...

    the PCPS is perfect

i installed it today and it's even quieter than my WD green powers and as loud as some scythe s-flex @600 rpm (= still audible but not as loud as a completley decoupled laing)

i am used to VERY silent rigs and what kept me from watercooling all the time was the noise coming from the pumps; while laing pumps are very quiet they can't go as low as some 120mm fans or quiet hard disks...

Can you take some more over all pictures of your set up? Also, can you take some pictures or show measurements of how you placed the top radiator? I'm might copy your design but I'm still working out placements.

no time for pics today sry

you have 122mm MAX so you need a very slim rad (afaik a swifty is too wide) unless remove 2 rivets and glue the case together or put fans between the casing and the rad; then you should be able to fit any 240mm rad in there

If I put the fans between the radiator and the case, I can put anything in there? That's fine.

I am probably going to put my 240mm in the top, and then my 120mm in the front, but I'll have to see. I have a HW Labs BI GTX 240 that's pretty thick... not sure if it will fit in the top and leave enough space for a GPU.
