Well all I know is that it supports 32nm like i7-980X Gulftown CPU's.

i wondered the same with 2 4870 cards
but with 5870 i know it would take a small hit

IIRC no matter what you do the second card will end up at 8x.

One quick question as well. Is there any solution on fixing that system not waking up without a force restart after getting into sleep mode? I have the latest BIOS.

I have bios 1504. Is there any benefit putting 1802 on instead?

    Spec:

    Core i7 920 D0 - watercooled
    4870X2 - watercooled
    Asus R2E
    Corsair 6GB 16000 3x2

I managed to get PC stable on IBT for 10 runs, max mem and 8 threads:

    4.1 - 21x196 ram@ 1572

    vcore - 1.3
    vtt - 1.325

    Temps - MAX 72 70 70 66 - Was hovering around 67/68

    NB/SB - 56

    Gaming got to 62 59 59 57

    I'm thinking I may drop down to 4ghz - 21x 191 ram@1532 as it needs a lot less volts.

    Vcore 1.275
    Vtt 1.23

20X200 just seems so unstable so not bothering with that. I have speedstep disabled and C1E Tech disabled also. Should I be setting any other voltages, disabling stuff etc?

Would it be better to lower it than run at 4.1 with higher volts? Really wanted ram at 1600 too, which I could get if I went to 21x200 but will need more volts.

In my system BIOS 1704 and 1802 permit a lower Vtt and Vcpu than 1504, at same settings.
    I suggest to try.

I'm still on 1504, as I haven't had an issue and don't have a reason to upgrade until Asus put in the changes I requested from them.

Thanks. Anyone else notice that? I might update to 1802 tonight then.

I tried 20x200 last night and I needed 1.3065vcore and 1.30vtt, IBT 20 runs Max mem was stable. But I had a few glitches in windows like parts of the screen going black in places.

Does that mean I need more volts or have a corrupted windows, Windows 7 that is?

Plus, I don't tend to set the IOH voltage as I leave it on auto, is it best to put to 1.2 when going for 4ghz?

Never put a voltage straight to anything in some kind of attempt at preempting instability. Rule no#1 of overclocking - only increase a voltage when needed. You should be doing a suite of tests when overclocking, and when instability occurs, testing will reveal which voltage/setting is responsible.

For 200 BCLK you shouldn't need more than ~1.15 vIOH set in BIOS. That is not to say set it to 1.15v, I'm just giving you a ballpark. Do some testing and establish what your system needs.

I'm strugglying as to know how to overclock it properly then. I've noticed a lot of you guys clock the bclk first to get that stable, then the multi and finally ram.

I'd like to know how to do this and what things I should be enabling disabling in the BIOS, what voltages should be on auto/manually set.

I've just jumped straight in at 4ghz and I'm now thinking I'd learn a lot more if I did things one step at a time.

I really need to decide which overclock I want too, as I keep toying with 21x191, 21x196, 21x200 and 20x200. Most vcore I've needed so far is 1.335 in BIOS for 21x200 but goes upto 1.38 on load so don't think its safe. Need to go back to the drawing board I think.....

Hope someone can give me some sort of structure and guidance.

Whats best bios version too, as I'm currently running 1504? Plus, I always use IBT and Prime to stress but looks like you all prefer linx on here. Is it better than IBT?

    Hello,
I have Rampage 2 Extreme with core i7 920 D0 stepping and 3 x 2GB Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D Kit that i just purchased from newegg this week.

I have not overclocked the CPU at all yet because i CANT !!

Was wondering if anyone has this kit working at 1600 mhz with 7-7-7-20 @ 1T timings ? or for that matter 8-8-8-24-1T or 2T timings manually without enabling XMP ?

The only way i get stable and dont crash running OCCT with this kit is to enable XMP via the Ai Overclock in the bios and that sets the ram to 7-7-7-20-2T and Qpi/Dram to 1.35v and Dram to 1.65v. With Xmp enabled my system is completely stable at Stock but i cant Overclock at all

    These are my current settings:-

    CPU Ratio - Auto
    BCLK - Auto
CPU V - 1.268 (as set in bios not real.. real is 1.256v as shown by cpu-z)
    DRAM - XMP enabled!!!
    QPI/DRAM - 1.356 --- set by XMP
    IOH V - auto
    ICH - auto
    CPU PLL - auto
    DRAM V - 1.65 --- Set by XMP

    Memory timing:
Auto for everything as is set by XMP. ( XMP sets 7-7-7-20-2T )

I am completely stable with the Above settings.

Now here is where it gets strange.

I tried to set 7-7-7-20- 1T manually with QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v and i crash in under 10 mins. I also tried setting 8-8-8-24- 1T manually to loosen the timings also keeping QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v without any success.

This is quite strange because i have a Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D kit rated @ 8-8-8-24-2T as well and that runs 8-8-8-24- 1T timings with QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v when i set it up manually with no problems at all

If i try the following setting with the Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D Kit then i crash :-

    CPU Ratio - Auto
    BCLK - Auto ( it is 133)
CPU V - 1.268 (as set in bios not real)
    DRAM - 1603
    QPI/DRAM - 1.356
    IOH V - auto
    ICH - auto
    CPU PLL - auto
    DRAM V - 1.65

    Memory timing:
8-8-8-24 - 1T and Auto for everything else = CRASH

7-7-7-20 - 2T and Auto for everything else = CRASH

    No luck at all....

Basically even with the cpu at stock 2.66 i cant change any of the ram timings manually. Enable XMP and the system is fine .. runs OCCT all day long and also no memtest errors !

The moment i turn off XMP and set ram timings manually even to the rated specs of 7-7-7-20-2T and QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v i get a CRASH !! in under 10 mins

if i try to change my Dram Timing to 7-7-7-20 -1T or 8-8-8-20-1T or even 8-8-8-24-1T, then i get crashes in OCCT and memtest86 errors even at Stock !!
I dont change the Qpi or Dram voltage either. Its left at 1.35v for Qpi and 1.65v for Dram.

Here is a cpu-z screenshot of my settings that fail at 7-7-7-20 1T.

    Screenshot
    http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9638/unstableq.jpg

    Would love some help guys...
Thanks for all the help in advance and reading my long post !!
    Cheers.

    P.S Currently on bios 1504.

    Hi Nordien,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.

I'd like to keep it at 4.2 if I could so I'll show you what I needed:

    4.2

    21X200
    VCORE - 1.3375
    VTT - 1.3375
IOH VOLTAGE - 1.245 (But I'm sure I can lower this, if not back on auto)
    VDimm - 1.65
    HT - ON
    SpeedStep - disabled
    C1E Tech - disabled
    Turbo - disabled
    LLC - Enabled
    Ram at 1600
    Uncore at 3200
    CPU Spread spectrum - disabled

    IBT Stable after 10 runs, 8 threads, max memory - 70 67 68 64

    NB/SB Temps - 57 / 55

I have cpu and 4870x2 under water with quad rad.

    Questions:

    What bios you running?

What cooling do you have and are all the other parts on the motherboard ok at this speed with stock cooling, i.e. nb/sb/mosfets? I have a tj07 with 2 92mm rear fans at 1600rpm and murdermod topgrill now in instead of two 120mm top fans.

    Whats your temps running IBT/Linx?

Should I put IOH voltage back to auto?

When system is under load, vcore goes upto 1.38 (everest reading) even though I've set it as 1.33750 which is over the intel recommended spec, won't this damage the cpu? Cpu-z reading says 1.32.

I still havent primed and run memtest so may not be fully stable yet, is there anything else which might add stability?

    Thanks,

    RoEy

    What bios you running? 1802

What cooling do you have and are all the other parts on the motherboard ok at this speed with stock cooling, i.e. nb/sb/mosfets? I have a tj07 with 2 92mm rear fans at 1600rpm and murdermod topgrill now in instead of two 120mm top fans. I have a TRUE BLACK with a scythe @ push and a SilenX 120*38 mm pull. And 5 other SilenX fans in the Spedo Case.

Whats your temps running IBT/Linx? No time @ this moment but i would guess in the high 70's to mid 80's (Celsius)

Should I put IOH voltage back to auto? Put it @ the desired voltage manually.

When system is under load, vcore goes upto 1.38 (everest reading) even though I've set it as 1.33750 which is over the intel recommended spec, won't this damage the cpu? Cpu-z reading says 1.32. No, the CPU Amplitude and LoadLine calibration are responsible for this. But obviously the cpu needs 1.38 to be stable. I think the recommended spec is 1.35v (at least for my i7 920 C0/C1)

I still havent primed and run memtest so may not be fully stable yet, is there anything else which might add stability? COOLING, loadline calibration on enabled, CPU Amplitude control and a good CPU

    Thanks,

Who's using Mushkin Redlines 99805's or (998691) on this mobo? the 6-8-6-24 (6-8-6-18) v/s corsair's CMX6GX3M3C1600C7 @ 7-8-7-20 to the 1800 range and if so at what kind of timings and performances? Do you feel any performance trade of for the CL6 of the mushkins v/s the lower tRAS of 20 on the Corsair at stock and of corse in the OC range ov 1800? Are the 998691 really worth the slight extra cost when at or above 1900MHz? Keeping in mind I will be overclocking to at least 1800 so that's why I ask if the Mushkin 805's will do as good as 691's at upper speeds with like timings?
