    did i get a bad q9650?

    i can get stable easy @ 4.2, 4.25

    but when i raise to 4.3, 4.35

even i put 1.48v on core, 1.4 on vfsb, 1.63 on pll, 1.38,1.4 on mch, 2.1 on ram

other voltage leave as stock or auto

i just keep getting error in prime95 : fatal error final results are XXXXXXX, expected XXXXXXX

i dont get bsod or whatever, just error in it

so does it mean my q96 cant go over 4.3?

i tried to set the multi to x6, and it seems ok in prime95 (478X6)

    sorry too many question

but want to now why the cores under prime95 are getting different test numbers?

for example finishing a 20K test, core0 may take 15, core 1 take 11(seems always 11 no matter the fft length), core2&3 take 14

    where core 0 , 2, 3, usually are variable

test with different CPU Reference values and use Prime95 v25.11
P95 does each sub test (FFT) for 15mins, and cores are not 100% "same speed", 10sec diff in 30-40min will result in one FFT starting "one minute earlier" then the rest...and sometimes it just took 15min 2sec for one core to finish one FFT, the weaker has to do one test more ..and, notice how the number of iteriations increase at end of tests ? 10-15% longer time to finish one test. Or the faster core did 10 tests in 14mins and 59secs, it has to do one more test.

For my cpu, testing 4.2GHz, with notches too low vcore, gave error on the two first cores/workers with too high cpu ref value (~66-67% of CPU Term)
I lowered it to 63%(AUTO) and the error was moved to the two last cores/workers...so, there was only one left in the middle, 65%...but instead of error I had BSOD...raised vcore two notches and i'm soon 90mins clear on P95 blend/4.2GHz/1.3625v bios, 1.328v load...1.30v CPU Ref, 1.28v MCH

has there been UD3P bioses with CPU Reference A and CPU Reference B ? I'd want to set/test the lanes individually, 63% for cores 0+1 and 67% for the other two. Why is there only one cpu ref ?

Triton: try raising you mch up. The higher you go up the more you will need for sure. With default vtt-1.20v, .785 cpu ref and .80 mch ref seems to be a good spot, they are linked to the vtt so will raise along with it.. If i set .785 cpu ref .800 mch ref when it fails it is always core 4. if i use .760 cpu ref and .800 mch ref it is core 2 that fails. just the way it is. best results have been at .785 and .80.

OK, I had 2hr 17min Blend BSOD (error prior, but P95 still cant log usefully; dont know which core!!!) on my last try(4.2GHz), 1.30v CPU Term and 1.28v MCH, will try 1.30v MCH, and possibly play with lower CPU Ref and vcore... thx for tip

I did few hours prep before 9x467: 8.5x467 memtest86+...showed good, set tests #5 and #8 coz those have shown errors in individual test LOOP, but showed "OK" regularly.... also tested lowering vdimm...ram is 1.9v (2.1v max) 800mhz 5-5-5-18. board droops, so i get 2.064v in load..horrific if ram requires 2.1v...but I Memtested 2.04v (2.016v idle/2.000v load), all clear. i'm sure lower vdimm gives better oc.

.785 and .80 refs are set with default 1.20vtt. Remember the ref's are higher with more vtt because they are linked.

sure, testing 1.30v CPU Term and 1.30v MCH,
    CPU ref=one notch above "0.76(63%)", think 0.823v(=my best 65%=0.785v with 1.20v fsb).

MCH Ref I had to raise one or two notches, its 0.863v now I think (stopped using ET6..even temps got unreliable...cpu freq, fsb ,crap prog really). It's over 65% atleast. 67% maybe.

I have 1,35vcore and raised to 9x464 (4176MHz)...if it lasts Blend during my hangover...tip worth raising flag for !

Thx OC Nub, running P95 blend on my rig, surfing on borrowed laptop:

I see a clear differance, after 1024K was finished, each of the 4 cores switched to 8K FFT test instantly, no 2-3 sec slower core now. I'm sure this helps stability.
65% CPU Term(higher than auto), 67% MCH Term(higher volts than cpu term)

    I belive in this

    EDIT

Now at 10K, cores 0 and 1 are little faster than 2 and 3...well, cant comment that yet, requires a sixpack or two !

I unlink them and run their defaults then tweak later. Do you feel this is backwards?

I always default to 1.20vtt and set ref's to desired value, mainly because I have a horrible memory and get the values wrong. But will adjust up or down a notch in et6 for tweaking.

I am trying to use Jor3lBR's templates to get my q9650 on 4.4 stable

but i keep getting fatal error : final results was XXXXXXX, expected XXXXXXX under small fft in prime95 on 3cores

    why?

    thanks

You can't us someone else's template a sguideline, probably your CPU needs more Vcore or other FSB Term and/or GTL tuning.
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I'd try and increase your mch core. I need 1.36 for 470 fsb

Derek: you are not using enough mch, you will need at least 1.360v but more likely 1.40v, also try 200d-pl9 and leave MCH frequency latch to auto, maybe raise trfc a little if you are using a 2x2gb kit. Your skew is off, or advanced clock control, try 800/800/0/50 or maybe 900/900/0/50. If it still keeps failing you may just need more vcore. Post your system specs, make a sig. This will help people to see what you are working with.

Found more stability when lowering MCH/Dram Reference, Dram Termination and both Dram Channels TWO notches from "50%", all 1.01v @ 2.08v MEM

With AUTO or set 50% of VDIMM I had in best case errors on Blend @ 3-4min. I'm still using too low vcore for my test OC, but got 3-4x longer in Blend. Dunno if it only coz the "high" volts to ram, maybe not OK for 1.8v dimms?
(haha, ofcourse the rig rebooted, but got way further this time)

    edit

seems I only have to lower Channel A & B References, leaving MCH/Dram Ref and Dram Term at auto/50%

really thanks for reply and help

aww, i always make mistake when filling in the setting

i actually set vmch to 1.4 when i was trying 4.4, but no luck

for the advanced clock control, 1000/1000 give me significant improvement when i was trying 4.3 and 4.33

i will try going to ram setting like you said, when i was trying 4.4ghz, i get errors in small fft prime95 within 3test for 2~3cores, seems to be the cpu problem?

Hi guys, I'd appreciate some input on getting the Q6600 stable. I'm new to overclocking Intel, came from AMD64 X2 NF4.

Mobo is EP45-UD3 on latest F8 bios. Basically I got the Q6600 stable on 335x9, vcore 1.2v (1.168v CPU-Z) with standard voltage settings. I've kept the memory settings on auto all the time.

The above settings are proven stable. Just a couple of notches up though and I start getting failures in Prime95.

I've kept PLL and reference voltages on standard during testing. Changes were mostly done to Vcore, CPU Termination and MCH Core. I used http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=147164 as a guideline.

Here's what I've gone through so far during testing:

    Run 1 - VCore
    Increasing Vcore, the rest stock.

    DRAM 1.8v
    ICH 1.1v
    MCH core 1.1v
    Termination 1.2v

    Prime95:

    Vcore 1.20v core 3 fail ~ 3 min
    core 2 fail ~ 6 min

    Vcore 1.2125 core 0 fail ~ 2 min
    core 1 fail ~ 5 min
    core 3 fail ~ 6 min

    Vcore 1.2250 core 2 fail ~ 7 min
    core 1 fail ~ 8 min

    Vcore 1.2375 core 0 fail ~ 2 min
    core 2 fail ~ 4 min

My conclusion: No benefits from increasing Vcore

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Run 2 - MCH Core
Increasing MCH Core, stock voltages except Vcore

    DRAM 1.8v
    ICH Core 1.1v
    Termination 1.2v
    Vcore 1.2375

    Prime95

    MCH 1,16 core 3 fail ~ 6 min

    MCH 1,20 core 0 fail ~ 19 min

    MCH 1,22 core 1 fail ~ 2 min
    core 3 fail ~ 3 min

    Possible 1.2v ''sweet spot''?

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Run 3 - CPU Termination
Increasing CPU Termination, lowered MCH back to 1.2v (best result on previous run)

    DRAM 1.8v
    ICH Core 1.1v
    MCH Core 1.20v
    Vcore 1.2375v

    Prime95

    VTT 1.22v core 2 fail ~ 3 min

    VTT 1.24v core 2 fail ~ 1 min

My conclusion: Possibly no benefits from increasing CPU Termination now

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Run 4 - Vcore again

    DRAM 1.8v
    ICH Core 1.1v
    MCH Core 1.2v
    Termination 1.2v

    Vcore 1.2375v core 0 fail ~ 2 min
    core 3 fail ~ 2 min

    Vcore 1.30v core 3 fail ~ 3 min

Conclusion: Again no benefit from increasing Vcore, Vcore 1.2375 run here had same settings as MCH Core 1.2v run in Run 2, but significantly shorter despite that. (19 minutes vs 2 minutes)

    -----------------------------------------------------

So I'm pretty much running out of ideas, unless you guys can point me a little in the right direction, such as playing with PLL and Reference voltages. Also, is it okay to leave memory timings and divider on auto for now?

If you bought one of the new generation Q6600's, the most you should expect to get is 3ghz. All the new ones overclock poorly and the older ones have great clocking potentials

It's a chip I got secondhand with a 1.25 VID. I got it to run properly on 3GHz with low voltage though, are there processors that supposedly do not go further, regardless of voltages?

If you have one of the newer ones I've heard they can't get over 3ghz no matter what you do to it. You're more than welcome to prove me wrong though. I suggest taking most of the settings off of auto and adjusting them manually.

Edit: It looks like you have one of the older ones actually as your vcore for 3ghz is quite low. I remember my Q6600 equivalent needed 1.5v for 3.6 (1.3125 VID)
