I testet Adaptec 1405. Crappy thing
I get a better perfomance with ASUS Striker II Extreme (Onboard - 790i).

For best performance you need a controler with IOP341-CPU (NOT 348!!!). For example ARC-1231/1261/1280ML

How do you figure that out? Is it worse than onboard still at random reads?

I'll probably be selling my 5405 when new SSD raid cards get released (the 1405 is non raid). Performance does indeed suffer quite a bit by using the controller versus onboard (of course without taking cache into account, which makes the controller useful even with a performance drop).
All it really neads is a little BIOS TLC, performance is nowhere near what it can be. Much better "general" usage than the onboard still though.

Hopefully... The general usage is only better due to the cache. Turn that off and poof, its worse than onboard.

I got the best PCMark Vantage "importing pictures" results off onboard. While I get the others to go up the more I tweak that one just keeps dropping. Onboard with a single drive (or maybe it was 2) got like 100MB/s and now with my best score ever its about 30. Virusscan is like 300MB/s though

How crappy? I just told my work to order the 1045 for an external SAS tape autoloader.

there you go! You probably gained 30-35% random reads that you lost before due to ty controller implementation.

Not really crappy before just never designed to handle SSD drives properly. If I don't see something soon from Adaptec I may have to change controllers

EDIT: oh lol thats the 1231 I don't think I'm dropping that much cash.

I'm wanting to upgrade the standard 256Mb memory to 2GB on my 1231 controller. Could someone point me in the right direction as what memory to purchase. Thanks.

I am talking about the controller not adding 30-35% latency anymore. Nothing about jmicron. If you look at your avg response time it was 0.2 before and now it is 0.1 as it should be. You've gained ~30% random read IOPS.

Look at the max responce time, 0.32/0.28ms before and 0.17 after.

A little bit slower than my ASUS Striker II Extreme.
    In my eyes only "SATA-Expander".

    @ Napalm

    Please try Crystaldiskmark (1000MB)
