    Core i7 HT & Turbo on/off performance

They ran all kinds of usage benchmarks with combinations of HT & Turbo mode on and off:

    Very interesting read.

Interesting indeed, and as I suspected, HT being more of a 'hindrance' to the core i7, than an advantage.

That's why I disable this feature as for me it's just a marketing gimmick, produce more heat and more power consumption.

Yeah, I think with 4 cores already, it's extremely hard to use 8 much better than 4...at least at this point in time.

I think they found an average 1% increase by having HT on; it just depends (greatly) on what you use your rig for.

OT: Hey, dude, watch it. I do crunches. Are you saying I'm fat?

I just dropped HT and my temps went down like 10c easy.. priming at 3.8ghz now with loads around 60c @ 1.3v... let's hope it passes the 24 hour mark like this. as for HT in general, for me I wont miss it as this is 100% a gaming machine... if I was crunching then I would think twice about dropping HT. it for sure makes a difference with any number crunching app... considerable difference on some!

Yeah Im WCG crunching and HT makes a HUGE difference =)
I also play games, so I dont mind the tad bit of slowdown HT *might* impose...its definitely worth the WCG crunching power!

Well I have disabled HT as it has allowed me to reach a lower stable v core, cooler temps and higher clocks I much rather have a higher clock than HT I can see no loss from this but my machine is mainly for gaming....but I get the feeling unless i suppose you use app's which make use of 8 threads I wouldn't have thought there woudl be much difference as a rule of thumb

Haha, yeah, I was just kidding; don't worry about it. I was a beta tester for Seti@home back in the day, but haven't done much crunching or folding since then. Hope to when I get my i7 rig tweaked.
