Interesting, it scores about the same as a stock-clocked 8800GTS 512MB.

so thats how they do it?
lol might be![]()

This is really just a 8800GTS 512MB...
... and it has rounded PCB corners?!?
You were not supposed to see this.
This time Nvidia screw up. I'm not going to upgrade until they put something out better than that
2x Asus P8Z68-V PRO Bios 0501
i7 2600K @ 4.6GHz 1.325v / i5 2500K @ 4.4GHz 1.300v
2x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1600
Plextor M5P 256GB SSD / Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
Seasonic X-1050 PSU / SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold PSU
EVGA GTX 690 (+135%/+100MHz/+200MHz/75%) / EVGA GTX 680 SC Signature+ (+130%/+80MHz/+200MHz/70%)
seems to be slower than the 8800gts........i dont know where nvidia is going with this......they should have named the 8800gt/s as the 9800's so we wouldnt be in this situation IMO
I concluded my little research and I'm proud to say that Nvidia made a mistake and saw it on time to hopefully turn an end on it, its mistake was name a G9(entitled G92) product as 8800GT and 8800GTS. G92 was supposed to be only G9 products and not G8 Series.
Now what could they do?
Meaningless to say. They will launch a full range of G9 products now and by the end of this year, time for the new upcoming GPU(GX). Nvidia is probably waiting for Intel to launch its new motherboard chipset design. So the most Nvidia products are only a refresh until the end of the year. So then we will probably see something scary.
Metroid.
All of this nVidia nonsense is killing me!!!
I'm jumping to ATI on principle!
2600k @ 5ghz / z68 Pro / 8gb Ripjaws X / GTX 580 SLi
2x Inferno raid 0 / WD 1TB Black / Thermaltake 1200w
Dell 3008 WFP / Dual Loop WC MM UFO
so a PCB revision on a card means it needs a new name, which conveniently hints at a new generation.
Uneducated people might realistically buy this to replace their 8800GT/GTS 512MB
If thats how nVidia treat their market, screw em.
i think the only card that wont be a disappointment from nvidia is the already released 9600gt. that card overclocks very nicely, and it gets very close to the much more expensive cards in terms of performance when overclocked.
DFI P965-S/core 2 quad q6600@3.2ghz/4gb gskill ddr2 @ 800mhz cas 4/xfx gtx 260/ silverstone op650/thermaltake xaser 3 case/razer lachesis
My thoughts exactly, even ATI did some adjustments from the R600 to the RV670, but this Nvidia crap? Oh my god! They use exactly same core, only a little lesser voltage on the Vcore.
Oh yeah and to support their theory that this card isnt psysically the same to the 8800GT/S(thus can be called a new generation)... they rounded the edges of the PCB... hahaha! OH MY GOD![]()
This is sad!![]()
yea, i dont understand, if its the same exact thing except for a newer version of opengl, why even bother creating it and releasing it? its not even cheaper to produce. it will probably be released at the same price as the 8800gts, thus making that card obsolete anyway.

9 series as of now = FAIL
ima going to get two more 8800 gtx for tri sli![]()
Now all the tech-junkies are pre-ordering a GX2 for a abnormal price(ah more than 2x the price of 2 8800gt's)
They think they get even a better card than their new bought 8800GT/S. But in comparision they pay even more for the same, or even lesser performance. I guess that 2x 8800GT in SLI at same clocks performs as good as a 9800GX2.
Only the GX2 is 1.5 times as expensive as 2x 8800GT. They now earn 25% more on each core they sell.
Because Nvidia marketing is quite good, people will upgrade from a 8800GT/s to a 9800xx card.
Isnt that wonderfull?
I dont know sure, but thats my theory

Yeah, but the 9-series is the same as the 8 series, which is DEAD as you say,
so the 9-series is DEAD also
"Magical 9"? GeForce9-series = utter FAIL. Just rebranded previous version.
Moreover, the 780 is also just rebranded previous version with an added
chip. nv is getting increasingly lame nowadays. It's high time AMD and Intel
kicked their @$$es to get them moving.

just noticed the mounting holes, G80 compatibility only.
but the 9800GTX has G92 mounting holes?

nVidia just want's to make as much money possible off of their current core-designs... Why the hell would they launch cards that perform a lot better than their current, when THEIR own cards would be the only competition? As long as ATI doesn't come with something that nVidia can compete with, it is highly unlikely that we will see a substantial perfomance boost in nVidia's lineup.
I can assure all wiseguys (including myself) that nVidia KNOWS what they are doing. It is a billion-dollar corporation for a reason.

Yeah, that bios on 8800GTS 512MB would be worth of try...
