I've delayed a new build for these as well. I thought Petra's was supposed to have them already...

Just called Petras and they did not get them today. They did say that the sinks would be up on the website the same day they get them.

I don't even have my new GTS yet but I'm going to buy these as soon as they are available.

I have a set from a HardOCP group buy. These things are amazing. All I need to do know is figure out how hard it is to anodize aluminum black.

I'm guessing Petra's didn't get there shipment in yet (hopefully -- as I've had cash in hand waiting patiently!). But I must say this is the longest I've delayed a system build (getting close to a month now) for a pair of heatsinks. While definitely worth the wait, if I can't obtain them sometime next week, I'm going to have to think of alternative cooling for my 8800GT (guess grab some of those Enzo copper sinks?), as I'd like to get my system up by the end of the month at the very least.

This is no complaint in any way toward iandh or petra's (as the design and craft of workmanship is uncanny) it's just like others here, we can only wait so long.

If you read the last page you'd have seen that they were just shipped out...I'd say expect them on the website early next week assuming USPS doesn't delay shipping.

Study a little bit of metalurgy, because you're out of it. Bluing is a technique performed on steel. Aluminum anodizes.

Find yourself a local shop to do the anodizing, because it's an electrolysis process that you're unlikely going to be able to perform at home. I've considered the same, if I ever get my shipment. If you find a good shop, please post pics.

Not entirely true. It can be done at home but the materials used to anodize are just a tad hazardous to work with. For those who are willing to pursue the matter, I recommend you read this.

    http://astro.neutral.org/anodise.shtml

For complete kits to do it at home, try here.

Eastwood Company, in the States, used to carry a kit a while back but has since stopped carrying it, not sure why.

Thanks for the links, Waterlogged. The Brit's results are rather clean; if someone wants to go to that degree of trouble, he's detailed his process well. Personally, I'll forego the hazardous material handling, ventilation requirements, and inherant waste involved with one-off processing.

No, not at all. Anodizing is used to protect aluminum in adverse weather conditions or areas of high humidity. If you're using your computer in either of those, you have more to worry about than corroded ramsinks.

Also should note that aluminum forms it's own protective layer of oxide when fresh aluminum is exposed to air.

Exactly and that's why welding aluminium is a sometime if you are a bit slow But beside this, it's a great thing and aluminium oxide is very hard.

To damage it, it need a very moist area or lots of chemicals, both of them which isn't supposed to occur inside a computer.

    You're a trooper man.

I shipped several sets on Jan 7th shipment (the one yours went out with) and a few are delayed/lost/screwed off or whatever the hell USPS is doing with my flat rate packages. One just showed on saturday over a week after its expected delivery date. I just sent a package of barbs to Cyberdruid and he got them just fine in three days all the way across the country.

If you like I will reship on tuesday via UPS next day air, I could really give a crap less if you keep the other set if it shows, use it to unclog your garbage disposal or something.

I delayed shipment on Petra's order with this grand idea that I was going to finish their entire order this weekend, and my grand idea ended up being fantasy. Alex PM'ed me over the weeked asking "What's the deal?" so I told him that I'd go ahead and ship what I had to keep from making them look bad due to my delay. They will have a UPS (NOT USPS ) tracking number at lunch tomorrow. I probably will send them next day air as well. This is set in stone now, I have put all other concerns on hold until I finish this order.

Dude your post office needs a good kick in the butt. I dunno how you put up with their incompetence.

I will keep an eye out for the package(s).

Just out of curiosity, is there a large price difference between shipping Priority versus flat rate? For all the lost shipments and time to make replacement sets, it might be worth it to try Priority instead. I'm sure your customers wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar or two on shipping costs.

I've always shipped my items Priority with Delivery Confirmation and haven't had a lost package yet. And I do a fair bit of computer component trading/selling/buying.

In addition, Delivery Confirmation is free if you print it yourself from the USPS website. You can also order free shipping boxes/envelopes through the USPS and they will have them delivered to you.

Or price them and let the buyers pick their preferred shipping option with a disclaimer about losses with cheap methods. Like that, you are covered and even if the buyer pick a better and faster method, you aren't losing money. I think you have shown too much heart and there is surely some guys who are attempting to get a freebie (like a sli setup where they order one, claim it's lost after 1 month and get a 2nd one free).

With delivery confirmation, you are covered.

I have been shipping priority, it just seems that most of the shipments that have been delayed/lost have been in the flat rate priority mail envelopes.

Most of the "lost" packages that are domestic were just delayed, but it seems that all but one of the packages I just shipped on the 7th have just dissapeared into nothingness. There are some international packages that just plain seem to be gone.

Prior to this I have only lost one out of hundreds of packages that I've sent/received using USPS. I think this is an isolated incident at a single office caused by the holiday backup.

Unfortunately I think you are probably right, I have been trying to keep my handling of shipping issues mostly private to prevent opportunists. This is the reason though that I have decided to just do wholesale on these because Petra's and ChilledPC are much better equipped to handle any sort of problems like this than I am.

The worst thing is that since I forgot to get a receipt when I dropped this latest batch off, even though I printed them online and have a record, there is no way for me to prove to USPS that I actually dropped them off.

UPS 2nd day air tracking number sent to Petra's.

Depending on what time the pickup gets here (sometimes they run pretty late) they should have the sinks in hand wed. or thurs.

No difference between flate rate and regular priority other than you can load up a flate rate box to some crazy weight and it still only costs $9

I ship live aquarium stuff flate rate all the time and never have any problems, it is almost always cheaper than shipping regular priority when you go over a pound or two.

Finaly got my new brass tops and my RMA'ed 7800GT upgraded to 7900GS back from Nvidia so at last I will be able to turn my PC on now while waiting to install the GTS.

It should make it better for everyone involved.

I have been having a hard time keeping up with all of the emails and coordinating shipments, now I can concentrate on just making the parts so that the price may come down in the future and I can enjoy a bit of free time finally.

Without such a lack of time I should be able to work on other projects as well now. I have put a lot of exciting jobs on the back burner for these sinks. Not that I mind, being that they helped me earn money to upgrade my system from an AMD X2 and 8600GT, and a lot of people seem to be very happy with them.

Like I've stated before I think this is more of an isolated incident related to my locale. There has been a huge real estate boom here, everything is clogged up. The roads, resturants, stores, post offices and DMV are all slammed in my area. What used to be a 15 minute 7 mile drive for me to the nearest freeway now has turned to 45 minutes on a good day and more like an hour on a bad day. I think a lot of the local services here are hurting. We have rolling blackouts and water supply issues, in addition to delays in shipments and whatever else you can imagine.

I have shipped primarily USPS mixed with a bit of UPS and FedEx for years and have always found USPS to be the best by far- delivery time, loss ratio, lack of obliterating packages, and cost.

I seem to have awful luck with shipping though even on my personal orders. Nine times out of ten I order from newegg and end up with my shipment going from Las Vegas to New Jersey to Texas and back before I get it.

Just so long as you did not ship them DHL ground! It would likely take an extra month, and 1/2 of them would be bent.
