I had a lot of problems with this new board, but that was partially my fault. I hadnt given the ram enough voltage, and it was blue screening after a few minutes. It seems to be running Ok for now, but it doesnt recognize my raid every now and then, and I have to reboot a few times to get it to go. Also, at stock voltages my temperatures seem higher. This could be because my AS5 hasnt cured yet, but this is probably the most unfortunate thing to come from this board. It could be the 603 bios as well, but Im going to let it sit a while with this bios. It caused me too much grief the first day I put it in, that Id like it to work well for a few weeks, maybe start folding again![]()

I just got a set of OCZ Gold (2 x 1GB) DDR2, is anyone running two different brands of ram at the same time with this board?

Eagleclaw,
I ran some Corsair and G.Skills at the same time with no issues. They were both rated @ DDR2-800 (400mhz) 4-4-4-12, but I ran them up to DDR2-950 (950Mhz) 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v. I could have got by on their rating of 2.1v but I chose to hedge my bets a bit with RAM voltage. Now I run all G.Skills (Micron Chips - the Corsair were Promos and I must have got lucky to get them to run at 950Mhz).
Hope that helps.

I am running 2X2gb Patriot 4-4-4-12 2.1v and 2X1gb Crucial ballistix 4-4-4-12 2.1v with no problems whatever. I think it is most likely important for the rated timings and voltages to be compatible when mixing chips.

Hi guys I was very interested reading all the 60 odd pages in this thread, however my problem is slightly different.
My AISuite just won't run despite many un-installs re-installs, I just get a pop up saying " EAccessViolation" then nothing.
I have a Quad Q6600 GO stepping CPU and BIOS version 0404 I had to update the BIOS as it wasn't recognising the CPU Microcode properly.
I notice though that that is the latest BIOS from ASUS using the Update prog.
Can anyone help me get the AISuite running please ?
I tried sending a Tech enquiry to ASUS but keep getting the message that their site is busy and please try again later !
Their server must be the smallest in the world apart from their sales onewhich seems to work fine.
The other thing I need help on is I would like to overclock the CPU but I am a bit lacking in knowing what to change etc in the BIOS.
I have 2 gigs of OCZ 6400 PC800 Memory installed.
If I want say an overclock to 3.3 Ghz I am using the stock HSF, what would be the recommended settings so that my CPU doesn't get too hot.
I would suggest that you reread the original posts in this thread. Eva 2000 shows just about every bios setting that you could need. From that point it is just a matter of experimenting to find out what works best for you.
I think 3.3 is going to be past what the stock cooler can handle. If you want any significant overclocking with the Q6600 you need high end aftermarket air or water cooling.

Poor at best. The Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme and the Tuniq Tower 120 are far better.

Sorry another question, at present in my P5K Deluxe WiFi-AP rev A2 ?
I am using OCZ Platinum 6400 800 DDR 2 2 gigs, is this any good or is Crucial Ballistix 8500 1066 better ?
Or what memory would you recommend.

OCZ mem is just fine. The Crucial is arguably better but the improvement would be too slight to be worth the price.
I have never had success with AI suite - IMO it is crap and not worth the trouble. It is not compatible with Vista 64 which is my OS.

I'm running XP pro 32 bit, I used the AI booster on my older ASUS P5WDG2-WS Mobo without any problems.
In the BIOS for the P5K it doesn't seem to have the overclocking options I had with the older board, whereby you could select a percentage overclock.

Hey, question for you all. I got a new P5k-Deluxe from my RMA, and its the newest revision (I believe). It came with the 601 beta bios installed, but I flashed to the 603 Bios. This one seems much less stable than my 501 bios on my first board. I did a backup before the old one died. Would it be ok to flash the 501 bios to this new board? I think Ill get a lot more stability out of it. Let me know what you think, thanks.
edit: or maybe the 4XX bios works even better for OCing? I can get 3.6ghz @ 1.325v on the 501 bios, but only 3.4ghz 1.325v on the 603 bios.

They reduced some latency timings ( if I recall correctly ) need some small changes in the memory options to get it going again... 9 x 400 benches fine here with 0601
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree

Hey guys just something I want to know, As stated by eva2000 and some others, the "black" slots are better in therms of overclocking then the "yellow" slots. But this makes me wonder, could it be that the black slots got a bigger drive strenght, which is bad for RAM ( D9?)in the long run and the RAm could eventually die...
I myself had a Mushkin Xp8500 rated up to 2.35v, The first 2 weeks I got it stable memtest/prime @ 1223 mhz 5-5-5-12 @ 2.30v and had a 80mm fan over it , dimms didnt felt hot so it was good, after some weeks I had some random restarts during gaming, so I did some memtest, and full of errors, I had to downclock and loosing the timing in order to get it stable @ 1200 5-5-5-12 @ 2.30v, so it was degrading ...., this was using the Black dimms....... I really dont know if there is a co-relation, but I got atm some crucial running @ stock speeds + undervolts, again @ black dimms, I might swap to the yellow 2 be sure.
So I want to know to know anyone their RAMs died so far on this board? and @ which slot they were used? Thanks

mc2K, that is a good question.
The more volts you are putting onto your RAM, the less drive strength you need.
Don't know where but somewhere i read that the black slots were better for high performance RAM.
I assume high performance RAM will be more powerhungry so it is reasonable to say that high performance RAM is ran at higher voltages, therefore i assume it should have lower drive strength instead of higher.
This is just an assumption, don't quote me on it.![]()

PC Probe works on mine, ASUS sent me a newer version of AISuite but that doesn't work either, just waiting for a response from ASUS again.
In Everest Ultimate Edition my CPU seems to have 5 temps showing, it says CPU temp then gives 4 core temps, what is the CPU temp actually measuring as it is much lower than the core temps shown, which are approx 49°C per core at idle.
Is this too hot ?
