hmm...That's interesting, and a very possible way to take things (higher shader clocks over more SPs), although I wonder how much performance would be hampered compared to a GTS/GTX because of 1/2-2/3 the texture power, etc.
64x3x2400= 460gflops (307 real)
8800GTS is 96x3x1350 = 388 (259 real)
Not that shabby for raw numbers. Two of those would be close to a teraflop too. Not saying that is all omnipotent measure of performance (as R600 shows) but the numbers could be there.
@ Frank, I know the 88GTS is 96. Lots of rumors are saying 6 TCPs for G92, which would be 96 shader processors (G80 tech is x thread control processor groups of 16 shaders; totalling 128 for GTX [8], 96 for gts [6], 32 for 8600gts [2]) only the one other posted rumor is saying 64 (4 TCPs).
Either 64 or 96 is plausible. 64 would make sense if shader domains are ~2400mhz. 96 with those shader domains would be unreal and unlikely (it would be faster than 8800GTX) if it is a midrange part.

wow thats amazing clocks. i am going to hold off buy a new high end part until we see what nvidia has for us in the high end.
as for the G92 it seems like it will be a fairly solid card not as powerful as a 8800gts but it should have enough for maxing out most games at lower resolutions. and the G98 sounds good as well. with 512mb and 256bit bus along with a clock speed bump it should perform well at 1280X1024.

And some people were calling BS when nVidia said the G8x shaders would scale to 1.5GHz, now they'll be agreeing with it I bet.
~2.4GHz Shader Domain would make for a pretty nice performance bump, almost to the point of the 8800GTS. Perhaps the 8800GTS 320 and/or 640 are going to be phased out soon...
I hope the G92 will be the new 7600GT or 6600GT, midrange card that offer previous generation high-end performance. I guess the G92 will be slightly slower than 8800GTS once AA & AF are enabled.

I can't help but wonder if the release in Q108 (G90?) is actually just a 65nm G80 with hella higher shader clocks (amongst faster core clock/memory).
A g80 with 2400mhz shader clocks...920 Gflops if mul exposed, 614 if not, ...Pretty darn close to a teraflop, and would mesh with "almost a teraflop".
Surely would be interesting if that's the way Nvidia is planning to scale the architecture.![]()
If it's something like 160 SPs (as some have speculated, and perhaps 512-bit bus) with such shader clocks, that thing would be the mutts nuts with literally TWICE the shading power of G80 (if shaders were at 2400mhz).
g80 = 128x3x1350= 518.4 but as mul is not exposed = 345
?? = 128x3x2400 = 921/614 (w/-w/o mul) - logically possible.
?? = 160x3x2400 = 1152/768 Gflops - just plain loony.
The former sounds more reasonable (easier to create/profitable) though.

I have read many info about NVIDIA "next gen" GPU G9x series and i`m dissapointed with rumours which appeared in last few weeks.
It seems that there is no GF8800GTX/Ultra replacement but NVIDIA will only fill the gap between GF8600GTS - GF8800GTS.
Latest rumours said that G92 is only 64SP chip (despite at first it was said to have 6 TCPs - 96SP) and high-end NVIDIA card will be GF7950GX2 like card![]()
I think 2 GPUs connected by SLI but in one PCB isn`t that what we`re waiting for because this solution need software support (drivers).
Well, i thought NVIDIA will release GPU which give us performance boost like GF7800 to GF6800 or little more. I was hope that G92 will be their flaghsip GPU and then there will be i.e. GF9800GTS which give similar performance boost to GF8800GTS like GF7800GT gave to GF6800GT.
Then i wonder where is 1Tflop GPU which was said on conference in May this year by M. Hara?? He said their nex gen chip will be close to 1Tflop - CHIP not CARD and he couldn`t think about SLI like connected GPUs....
Anyway i can`t wait until 12th November and i still hope my expectations will come true. They aren`t big i think. I only would like to see High-End part which is faster than GF8800GTX about 30-40% in most situations (games not only 3D marks) and card like GF9800GTS (or 8900GTS NM) which is faster than GF8800GTS about 20-30% and it`s price isn`t higher than it.
@BenchZowner what "HIGH-END" part are you talking about?? Almost every site aobut hardware said that there will be no high-end part but only G92 (GF8700GTS) and G98 (competition to Radeon HD 2400xt).

While it might happen, I don't really see the 65/55nm "highend" being a 2GPU 1PCB card from either Co.
Both will shrink, tweak and push the clock speeds and then with the R700/G1000(NV60?) we will see a multiGPU approach.

Let's just say ( for the occasion ) that the numbering scheme has changed, and it's:
G92: The Top Dawg ( nVIDIA's flagship GPU )
G90: Being a mainstream GPU
G94: low end
etc: etc

This November ( not in the movies), new top dawg...single GPU ( no 7950GX2 look-alike )...768MB ( 1GB edition...highly unlikely for the first 3 months or so ) Samsung GDDR4-3200, 384bit BUS ( like G80 )...G80/G80+ SP's ( 128 or 128+ )...24xx MHz S.D. Frequency...

I agree whole heartedly there. Half the time, when developers are sent cards early, they aren't even told a part number. You'd have to remove the cooler to figure that out, and I can tell you right now that they generally aren't too keen on doing such things.
This is why sometimes specs fly around for cards from very credible sources that turn out to be nothing of the sort. I can say out-right that the developers G80's were out for quite some time before the 7900gtx's hit the stores.

Well, I might be the only one to insist and post that nVIDIA will release a new high end ( new flagship product, not just high end ) product this November... but I'm not the only one to know/been told...not everyone's free from NDA

I`ve skipped G8x series to buy something on G9x based. I was disappointed when i read in last two-three weeks that NVIDIA will release only mainstream-performance GPU to replace GF8800GTS 320 and GF8600/8500 this year.
Then BenchZowner said NVIDIA will release their highend GPU (no GF7950GX2 card or dual-GPU on one PCB like Dual GF6800GT or GF6600GT card).
I would like to see a GF9800GTS (or GF8900GTS) little faster or equal than GF8800GTX which will be priced about GF8800GTS![]()
BTW. It`s said G9x is 384-bit. Then how can they release 384-bit card with 1GB memory?The only way is G9x has 32ROPs but 8 is disabled for now.

G92 is also known as "D8P" which stands for Desktop 8 Performance and the marketing name is GeForce 8700 GTS as revealed earlier. There will be 2 variants; 512MB and 256MB.
