still haven't hit my 2gb limit... I thought the prefetch tech was really nice. I hope this doesn't hamper that.

it dose not. This patch makes windows take charge of 32-bit software that does not know how to work with the new WDDM, which means that less memory is wasted to doubled data.

I have. all it takes is for me to do it is to run COD2 with firefox open. lol

weird... after installing this in vista x64 at start up with only the sidebar and startup apps running it's taking up 1.2GB and is slowly counting down to a 1GB.

but now it's at 906MB with firefox running, so it's working. before I installed the patch the system would use 1.1GB with firefox.

Worked for me, went from using 37% of 4GB while idle to using only 25%.

I'm running SP1 and I guess this was already included, because it said this update does not apply to my system.

Hum thats weird, my install of Vista only eats about 450-500MB on Idle. On startup I normally have about 40-43 processes. So far I am extremely impressed with Vista so far.

lol, i have 65-70 processes runnig, but that include outlook, boinc, speedfan, everest, webserver, msql db,rivatuner, activsync,ie, and lot of other stuff...
omg i have 13 instances of svchost
    1150MB used
but im not complaining or bashing, even with all that stuff its smooth.
just for benching i use Administrator account, not my own account, coz most of that stuff is tied to my user, and as admin im running only ~35-40 processes

i have to do a image backup of system, then try this new hotfix. just in case...you know...microsoft

Excuse my ignorance , but wasn't Vista designed to allocate all available memory ? to improve performance cause all data stays in the memory.

    Now there's a hotfix

    eh, no. yes. depends :p
one thing is kernel+system mem usage, that is in my system now at 1020MB
    other thing is superfetch.
If you have 2Gigs of mem, vistal itself+apps would use ~1GB and the rest is for superfetch. thus in taskmgr it shows 17MB free mem for me lol.
Vista does use all the mem, but this patch was intended to cut down kernels memory use. but it does still use full mem for superfetch
