Exclamation my first Cascade is born :-)

On Fri Jan 27 2006 i decided to build my first cascade!
i bought two nice comps from a friend and a plate hx from egay. the rest is from cold_ice who was and is a great help!

here are the parts that i used:

    1st stage:
    Mitsubishi RH-421-VH (rotary)
    Verflüssiger: 0,88kW
    30g Filter/Dryer
    evap: PlateHX 4kW
    refrigerant: R507
    .7mm captube

    2nd stage:
    Rotary 7200BTU
    Condenser: PlateHX 4kW
    30g Filter/Dryer
    selfmade evap
    .7mm captube
    refrigerant: R1150

the first idea of how i could arrange it...

the two compressors on the mounting plate

    i like playing with CAD...

    thats gonna be the evap:

    some parts arrived

i'm brazing with propane+oxy, green bottle is nitrogen for purging and pressure testing

this is the finished cascade, partially insulated, wireing is not done but i only have to connect the cables with the relais...

    my cute assistant :P

a psu for the fan controller and for the relais, the right one is an empty psu case, i will put the relais inside it

these are two relais, one is missing (sry 4 quality, cell phone nokia 8800 is cool, but cam is really crappy)

the danfoss kp17, 2nd stage high pressure cut off

desuperheater, 1st stage compressor, some piping and the condensor with 230V fan

left upper corner of pic: here goes the cap into the suction line...
    right ... oil sep

    insulating was hell!

the front, forgot to rotate the pic CCW

    front view

    overview...

here is a plan of the electric wireing of the cascade

i had the idea (i know, some did already before i did) of building a box, which is filled with nitrogen, where the mobo is mounted inside, so that i wont have condensate...

i hope you like it, and way more important, i hope i will crack the -100°C with that thing

    any questions, tips ... ?

I dont think its a shiity camera. from the looks of it if his ISO is set prety high. Check what it is set at, if pics will still look like this with it set to 200 then yea its the cam, but that will probbably fix it.

    thanks for your comendation!
this is a handycam, i really dont know how to set anything except the nightmode (which is quite worse)...

i just borrowed a digital camera from a friend, i think i will make a small vid where you can see 360° of the cascade... (and maybe the cat )

right now 2nd stage is beeing evacuated.
later on i'll charge the it with propane (just 4 fun)...

i have done a little change at the electrics, i took the one relais out of the 230V circuit, so that the whole control circuit is 12V which is much better!

so here you have some pics...

yes, yes, yes ... i hate the cam too (send me money, and i will buy a casio exilim ex-s600 ;D)

nothing wrong with the cam, just whiny people who seem to think we need ultra high clear pics to share builds.

Does the job what more do you need?

    finally i did somthing again

the compressor (l'unite aj5513e, very strong one) got broken (dont know why, but there is a connection between the motor coils and ground... ) .. so i ordered a new one (found a nice rotary on ebay.
last week i got my new rotary. i'm happy with it:

    chaos in the workshop

temp ... refrigerant is R290 yet, in few weeks R404a/R507a

    Frozen...

    1. the rotary compressor get very hot, but i think thats normal...
    2. i mistook the oil-filling-port and the discharge port. is that very bad or is it unimportant?

i had already temps in the range of -55 to -50 but i didnt take a foto (suction pressure ~ -0,3bar to -0,2)

    -------------

a few days ago i decided to redo the whole unit. i had a monoblock from ebay, and i took the rotary out of it. i redid all the piping and replaced the filters. i changed the system in both stages from captube to TEV (1st) and CPEV (2nd). i like rotaries, coz threy're smaller, but more powerful than reciproaking piston...

    pics without any comment :

i insulated everything, except the piping where the TEV and CPEV is supposed to be.
