In relatively small Lengths, 7/16" will have higher flow rate than 1/2".
If using 7/16", it fits very snung on 1/2" barbs, and clamps are not really needed
I had zero clamps on all 9 barbs in my setup, never a spill because took lots of strenth to pull the tubing off the barbs, its that snug
(but good to have for safety precaution)
