    Beware (Monarch) Opteron 170 Results

Look guys...I ordered an Opteron 175 from Monarch for $599. Now they have them for only $525. And they have the Opty 170's for $542...HMMM!
Anyway, they shipped it and I got it today ...guess what...I got a Opteron 170 instead of a 175 like I ordered!!!! The packing slip says 175 and everything, but the processor is in a 170 box and it's a 170!
Anyway, they will get an EAR FULL when they open up today. And I will get the 175 at the NEW price as that's ridiculus that they sell it at the old price when they are going to ship it today.

Anyway, MEANWHILE..I'll be overclocking the 170! WOOT!

So far here I am: Stepping: CCWBE!! UGH!

I'm priming at the above settings right now.... MaxL temps are only 38C w/ devices in my sig. 28C idle.
ODD: For some reason even at 260x10 SPI 1M will give me errors immediately, but prime is passing fine.... @ 280x10 I still get SPI errors. I haven't tested at stock settings, but I think they will give me errors on SPI too....Any ideas here? Before my 4400 was passing SPI 1M and 32M but not passing prime...it's the opposite right now. (I deleted all the files in the spi directory and all that good stuff...no luck). My RAM passed 25 passes of Memtest last evening @ 300Mhz 3.2vdimm...(active cooling). I have ram at 1:1 280Mhz 3-3-3-8 right now...so it's good. SPI is acting up on this opty.....help a brother out..

Delete the cache files from the PI DIR and see if that helps

Nice clocks though, you'd be mad to return it, just get the cost difference refunded

<edit> Bah, didn't read the first post properly.... </edit>

every memcontroller is different so you will have to search for new values for your ram!
my OCZ did 273MHZ @3-4-3-6-2-2-2-2 1T on my NC but to get it stable on the venice for OCCT and Prime I need 3-4-4-8-4-3-2-3 1 T now.

    i think that's it

So let me get this straight.. you order a 175 from Monarch. You get the processor and open the package, noticing it clearly says on the box it is a 170 and the looking at the processor and the invoice is incorrect. You get pissed off and plan to call them and give them a piece of your mind as you feel you were unjustly overcharged since the next day they lowered the price and sent the wrong porcessor to boot. Then you proceed to open the box, install the processor and use it? Do you see where I am headed here?
You are aware that a lot of these companies have reps that troll the forums?

    I can't get it stable at 2.8Ghz. SPI won't complete 1M!
I'm still getting BSOD when running 3D Mark.
I think my mobo is bad somehow. I don't know what's up with that...
I checked both of my RAM sticks with memtest86 (passed 7 times complete test w/o errors @ 300mhz 3.1vdimm).....I can't figure out this SPI thing....@ stock settings across the board it will complete 1M sometimes....Other times it won't.

Well first of all what are your ram settings? I have had a huge struggle with ram on my 146. I doesnt like dividers and it only likes the 10x multi. So play around with diff muli's and dividers. What works in memtest may not work in windows....

    be back later with that

    I tried 250x9 w/ 1:1 and PI 1M gives error.
I don't know what it is.......

I put my 4400 back in and SPI fails 1M with that too....

    WHAT HAPPENED HERE?

uh oh...I think I know what happened here....I noticed that no matter what I set my CPU to...windows will not boot unless RAM vdimm is 3.1 or higher.
I ran memtest w/ ram @ 300mhz @ 3.1v for a while and it failed on test #8 741 times on pass 14. So, I bumped voltage to 3.2v and it passed test #8 with flying colors...since then all this has been happening. I've ran memtest86 for 20 passes @ 3.1v @ 280mhz and it passed fine. However I'm having all these other issues I've been mentioning. Not being able to boot windows without 3.1vdimm....and SPI failing...C'mon experts..what happened here?

Mobo dying? Known to happen. Or something's wrong with your memory since you have to RAISE volts for it to be stable.
