    My results with patriot BE-6

Already posted this on an Australian site but I thought I’d move it here as well to get some international feedback. I purchased a 2 gig set of patriot ram from a local aussie dealer when it arrived, and as stated in another thread it turned out to be BE-6, as opposed to the BE-5 or CE-6 that has been encountered by American’s who bought this.

I can’t find anything on BE-6 chips, so there’s little for me to really compare this with. At this stage I’m only running a 3200+ Winchester on stock air in an abit av8 mobo. My NF4 SLI-D and 3800+ X2 will be coming soon. I’m hoping the extra voltage, better motherboard (the av8 is a via chipset =/) and better memory controller will help improve these results.

    Things I’ve found so far:

    1) I don’t think my motherboard likes 250 HTT or more. Even with the multipler down to 8X and vdimm increased, it won’t even post windows at 250 2.5-3-3-8, despite the fact that at 245 with the same timings it is SP 32M stable. Surely 5mhz wouldn’t have such a big impact, making it go from rock solid to not even postable? I was expecting a gradual decline in performance. Might be explained by the fact that it is a via chipset.

    2) Tref value makes a HUGE difference. By default I believe it was on 200mhz/7.8us and I couldn’t get past loop 6 of SP 32M. After tweaking it for a bit, I landed on 200mhz/3.9us, and 200mhz/1.95us, both of which did a full 32M run with the same HTT/timings. From loop 6 to a full run is a massive difference. Memory bandwidtch in Sandra between 200/3.9 and 200/7.8 is almost nothing (50-100 pts).

    3) These chips don’t like cas 3. They are more stable at cas 2.5 than 3.

And without further ado, heres a screeny. I did this last night, 240 at 2.5-3-3-8 SP 32M stable. This morning I ran it at 245 same timings, but I was running out the door so the screeny isn’t online, its stuck at home. Sorry the screeny is slightly cut off but the other place I uploaded it has a size limit, and I didn't have irfenview at the time to change the quality (recent format).

I’ve been burning at 240 2.5-3-3-8 with 2.7volts all yesterday, this morning I set it to burn with the same at 245. My ty mobo goes up to 2.8v, but I don’t think these chips like much voltage, because I don’t see a sizeable improvement.

Considering most ballistix users get 270-280, and these cost half as much for 20-35mhz less (but at slightly better timings) they’re a bargain. I want to hit 250 with my timings and I’ll be happy, 260 and I’d be ecstatic. I have yet to tweak other settings like async.

    Enjoy.

260 is quite impossible i reckon..

this is what i am at atm..

they like vdimm between 2.7 and 2.8 and not higher for my sticks

and yea they do better on CAS2.5.. try tightening some of the timings..

for mine 3120 and 2048 are the best.. the rest fails 32M instantly or fails a few loops into 32M

try playing around with drive strengths and data strengths as well.. mine does very well with 7 and 2

I don't understand why 5mhz would make the a 32M SP stable system not even boot windows though. It should be a gradual decline. Like i'd gradually get more errors and be able to run less and less SP's till eventually it wouldn't boot.

245 is perfect, 250 won't even boot and has trouble posting. Theres gotta be something else wrong in there.

yea that is what i experienced as well..

still trying to find something on it..

i'm on bios 618-3 now.. might try some -2 on yellow slots.. who knows it might work well..

u can try running memtest test8 @ 250.. it'll pass but test 5 will give u 40k errors LOL (well that's when i stopped it and clocked it down)

Are your sticks patriot sticks? Your signature says corsair =)

And if they are patriot, what chips? BE-5? It seems australian shops got BE-6 sticks, but all american shops have BE-5. I cannot find any other sticks that use BE-6 chips, which is annoying.

    Ah ok, good.

At least there is one other person with the same sticks so we can compare =)

    Where did you get them?

Ok good, i'll keep updating as I do more stuff. At work now though. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix the 250 problem, let us know.

Yea, theres something very strange going on. It just refuses to do 250 at all, despite 245 being rock solid.

I'm going to try loosening the timings a huge ammount and see if it still doesn't work.

Ok even with 2.5-5-5-10 timings and upped from 2.7 to 2.8 volts, the ram crashes as soon as i set it to 250mhz. Is it possible for them to lock it at a certain level or something? I seriously can't understand how 5mhz can change stability so drastically.

Infineon BE-6 are on these chips, but they're the ones we got in australia, american buyers have got BE-5 and one got CE-6. All infineon.

check the 2GB database on the top.. you should see some BE-5 results..

at the moment only Gaspar got CE-6.. and he's doing 280 3-3-3-8
