Very important, read it before you kill your RAM

Just talked with Oskar couple minutes ago.

when you play winbond utt type of ram on DFI NF4 series, and if you set the jp17 on 2-3, after your play is done. PLEASE, do as followed:

Clear CMOS before set the jp17 back to default 1-2 position or set the 3.2v before set the jp17 back to 1-2. Several of my friends already killed their ram already. Be very careful about this.

and be sure look at when you set 2.6v and see if voltage monitor under the bios is showing exactly what you set.

Man. It seems like such a hassle to go through just to use the computer. Does this only pertain to RAM that takes advantage of the 4.0VDIMM jumper?

I tell you guys what, now, Oskar is writing the BIOS to prevent this happen further.
Be patient bro. Just wait for the bios later.

The DFI jumper has adverse effects on memory voltage when bios is reset and the jumper is set to the 5v

Some people dont know about this. Thanks for the reminder.

could you clarify what you said a bit confused :o

so you mean, to change from 5v jumper back to 3.3v jumper (from 4v max to 3.2v max options) you must either

    1. clear cmos before changing jumpers
    or
    2. set vdimm in bios to <3.2v vdimm ???

so in otherwords if you only ever change 5v to 3.3v jumper when vdimm is set between 2.5-3.2v vdimm you're safe ?

and be sure look at when you set 2.6v and see if voltage monitor under the bios is showing exactly what you set.
you mean 2.6v vdimm option can give you more than that ???

    Ouch, where were you earlier...

I assume, this is the case or what (just with an adverse effect - killing bios or the board, not ram): http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=58965

At least two people have had big trouble if moving the Vdimm jumper to default position and clearing cmos, so don't do it simultaneously.

my friend told me that this info was written on the manual book. But not as detailed as your explanation. Thanks for the info OPB, sure it will save a lot of RAM and friends from toasting UTT.

    414-1

    414-2

    414-3

    ******************************
Add support for AMD Venice , San Diego Core cpu Cool n quiet

prevent Jp 17 jumper problem cause vdimm still stay at over 3.3v when jp17 set back to 1-2.
DFI recommand cumstomer need to set to 3.3v AND clear CMOS before set the jp17 back to 1-2 default position.

So if I use this new beta BIOS, it should be ok to run my RAM at 3.3V+ 24/7? Provided I have sufficient cooling of course.

I believe they are saying it's ok to run at those volts. Its when you switch the jumper on the board from the 5v rail to the 3.3v rail it can have adverse affects if not done correctly.

    it's not 24/7 concern,
it's about the situation regarding some users when they test both tccd and utt type of ram
they need to switch the jp17 and some times they just shut down the system when vdimm still set to over 3.3v then they switch the jp17 immediately back to 1-2. so that's really dangerous.

awesome!! which version do you recommend for the TCCD such as GSKILL 512LA? don't know what was being updated on those new BIOS but I assume the 414-3 is similar to the 331-3 so I'm going to flash it now and test it.

I and Oskar would recommand :
    TCCD use 1,3
Winbond and other ram use 2,3

I recall reading a post that said something about not using the 5V jumper for 24/7 use. Can anyone confirm this or did I have a brain fart .

Also, I know it's off the subject, but whatever happened to the G. Skill Winbond UTT modules? I've been watching Newegg like a hawk and still no sign of it .

sorry, i need a little explanation though. A little confused.

What actually happens when for instance, vdimm are set @3.5v and I shut off the system and switch the JP17 back to 1-2 ? Does the mobo is still supplying @3.5v even I set the JP17 back to 1-2? Or there will be a voltage spike which kills the RAM?

about the bios files, my friend said that it's not compatible with the UT series.

HAHA - funny, I did it the other way round but didn't kill my RAM, only my BIOS chip.

It's stuff like this why I'm tending to avoid this board. It's like it's not even a finished product.
If I had a nickel for every thread I see about some problems with DFI nf4...
