Asus p5b deluxe on board sound issue

I have 2.1 gaming speakers (left, right and sub) I have the newest sound driver from asus site although i also tried the one on the mb driver disk. Any type of bass sound does not work with my sub, instead when a low freq sound comes out of my speakers it comes out of my left and right (and sounds really horrible like a cracking sound). This has nothing to do with my speakers, because if i put headphones on the same thing happens as well, instead of a bass sound it will be a cracking annoying sound. What could I try to do to fix this problem?
