    Fantastic stuff, really awesome bling

I don't know much about nickel plated stuff so here's my question: doesn't it ever wear off?
    How thick is the layer?

It's not hugely thick, but it's not something that will come off easily. Sandpaper would do it, bu normal use shouldn't have much of an effect, if any.

Great price for a beauty. I had some blocks nickel plated locally myself but it wasn't as inexpensive. They need to come from the factory like that as an option.

Fantastic pictures of them too. Now if only I would have bought one before I had my batch done.

    That sure looks sweet.
Is the block polished before plating or does the plating makes it that smooth?

could you possibly weigh the block?.. and compare to what the weight was before?
the nickel plating looks pretty thick to me, the screw holes aren't true to their original sizing.
very thin nickel plating wouldn't have an effect on cooling, but if you made the nickel to thick it could start to effect temperatures i think.

Why does everybody like nickel plating so much? Personally I think that bare copper looks the best, and it technically performs better as well.

Why?????? because everybody is different !!!! I like nickel... you like copper..

about the performance, i have own 2 EK FC 4870x2 in both finish and the performance was exactly the same.... but in CPU could be different

Actually... they polish it after the plating process... but just the externals part of the block...

I would have left the base unplated... you just degraded performance and you will never see the base, except in photos.

I'd definately clean the base up; polishing can degrade performance (even without the polishing compound, TIM works better when it isn't on a surface lapped with 2k grit paper)

Nickel plating is not as impervious as everyone would have you believe. Below is an image (not mine) of an Innovatek G-Flow CPU block that I grabbed from a corrosion topic. These blocks are copper and come with decent nickel plating as I do have one (no longer in use because it sucks) but even the nickel plating on this one succumbed to whatever was going on in the loop it was in.

That's because the threads cut through the plating and exposed the aluminum leading to galvanic corrosion. Because the HK is copper that won't be an issue.

I have a G-Flow and the top and bottom are copper.
