Help antec true control and MSI neo2 !!

i got this MSI Neo2 939 mb firday i stuffed my FX-53 in it and it ran fine all weekend long. i went to bed last night shut the system off and when i woke up the thing wouldnt turn on!!??

ive tried every trick i know and the thing will not turn on?? so i started thinking maybe my antec 550watt psu was the problem so i took that out of the system and tried a 300watt no name psu i use for my mach1 and the system would turn on but wouldnt boot (i gues the 300 watt just isnt enough?) so what i did was take the antec 550watt and used it to power everything except the atx plug wich i used the 300watt for and with the two psu's i was able to get the thing to boot and run. so my question is wtf is going on here? also the antec 550watt is back in my intel rig running the system at 4400mhz as i type this. so i know the antec hasnt gone bad...

anyone have simular problems? i know ive read a few threads with people having psu problems with this mb but i dont rember what they ended up doing to get it working again? should i rma the mb? just doesnt make sense that the psu was working fine then all of a sudden its not? now isnt there a power clean option in the psu? maybe the psu is detecting some type of problem and not letting the antec power up the mb? anyways i just wanted to get some input from you guys since im all out of ideas....

I don't suppose you have wound the voltage up on your true control, as that seemed to be the only idea

nope it was running on air i was just running it bone stock no ocs no nothing.... the damm thing is pissing me off!!! ive gotten it to power on but i had to use two psu's to do it (antec running everything except for the atx plug wich i used a cheapo 250watt). im still thinking that the clean power crap of the psu is picking somthing up and isnt lettingit boot.... man this sucks.

ok well it seems this is a problem for alot of people.... i gues i need to get a diff psu cause from what im reading people with the OCZ powerstream and the Antec 550watt true control are having the same problems as me. well so much for my new OCZ powerstream upgrade.... im getting rid of this MSI this sucks. when is DFI comming out with that 939 mb? by the time i actualy get to enjoy this FX chip it will be out dated!!! anyways if any of you got any links to people having these problems please post em. ive found a few but im sure there is alot more out there....

Heard that it was something about their "power good" signal that really freaks out 64 boards.

have the EXACT same problem but with a K8n Platinum.
it reacts just the same way with my GF4.. But with my Gf2 it works with no problem..
i remember some other guy that had the same problem and he emailed MSI about it and this is what they replied:

Dear Richard Breen,

Having done some research on the issue, we have concluded that its probably
due to a error in the image of the bios.
Provided the component has not sustained any physical damage we can repair
this for 10 P&P which covers the cost of returning the motherboard to you by
courier.


Might it be worth flashing your BIOS cos I can't think of anything else you could try.
It's a long shot, but has to be worth a go.

yeah ive got the latest bios 1.41 in there now and i also got a spare bios chip with the 1.3b7 bios and niether one works... from what im reading these guys are having the exact same issues. seems there board runs good for a few days and then poof it dies? one guy has rma'ed the damm thing 3 times and on his 4th board it did the same thing! i think its a compatiblity issue between the mb and some psu's? also i do think certin bios's cause this too but until i can get it to power up i cant even flash my freakin bios!! oh well atleast i know im not the only one having this problem....

I have to send back my Neo2 platinum AGAIN. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS. I turn on the pc and it powers up for half a second then shuts down. I have to reset the psu to be able to retry it. The board doesnt work with any other power supplies. But, the power supply works with every other board.
I have tried taking every component off, have replaced CMOS battery, have run the motherboard out of the computer to no avail.
The same problem twice in a row? It worked for about 3 days then it just died.

I have an Antec True Control 550, and my Previous Board would false start. Lights and Fans for about a second and then power off. Sometimes I could get it to start after 5,10, or 20 tries. One thing I noticed is that I accidently turned my computer on without the power connector to my 9800 Pro connected. Computer would boot every time I tried this. So I got used to starting my computer by plugging in the video card power connector about a 1 second after power on. Kind of a ty way to live with it. In the mean time, I would leave my computer on all the time. My Antec also did the same thing on an Intel board.

Funny thing is when I recently upgraded my computer with all the same components, and a Winchester 90nm, and the MSI Neo2, I have not had this problem any more.

Maybe you guys might want to try my "work around". Might be a little risky, but I never fried anything.

I have a very similar problem!

I have a MSI Neo2 Platinum, and an Antec TruePower 550w.

The PC was fine for about 2 days, then the next time I went to turn it on... the Mach II GT turned on but the PC wouldnt start.

Then I switched off the PSU and turned it back on again. The PC's fans started up for about 1 second and then stopped again. The power button on the front of the PC seems to do nothing. Yet everytime I switch the PSU on/off the PC fires up for a second!!

Assuming that the PSU had blown, I hooked up my Antec TruePower 430w and got the exact same thing!!

I then changed the CPU from an FX53 to a 3500+ Winnie.. same result. Changed the RAM ... same result. Changed the gfx from a 6800 Ultra to an Ati 8500..same prob. Took the mobo out of the case (as i thought it could be shorting on the mobo tray... same problem!!

I RMA'd my Neo2 and the new one worked fine for about 2 days, then all the same problems started again.

I have now returned this board aswell and have opted for the Asus A8V Deluxe, although Ive heard this mobo is not as good a clocker as the MSI, I would much rather have something with a little bit of stability!

REALLY FED UP WITH THIS MSI BOARD!!

Ps.... some of the people over at www.overclockers.co.uk are reporting the same problems, weird if you ask me!

* PPS... now that Im going from a nforce3 chipset to the Asus (via) chipset, do I need to uninstall the old mobo drivers and reinstall all the new ones, or do I need a full reformat??

yup your problems are exactly what my problems are!!! ran mine for the first 2 days i had it then shut the system down sunday night and went to bed. woke up 5hrs later hit the power button and you know the rest of the story

i picked up a generic psu "allied 500watt" seems to be working just fine now?? i have to get this sytem in my phase change to see how well this psu holds up with me ocing the system? i hope it handles the load or im going to have to buy something else and pray its not on msi "dont work" list...

I have a Antec True Control also, but I use a DFI UT 250 and from the beginning it would false start but only after running for awhile. The next day after sitting for a few hours it would start no problem, but when its warm or been running and I have to start it I just turn down the 3.3v line in the front panel and it boots right up and as soon as it does I crank the 3.3 line back up and all is good.

It probably doesn't have much to do with your problems but just an idea.

well with my set up ive tried with and without the external bay thing installed and if you read your psu's manual you see that with the external bay unpluged the psu defualts to 95% of its rated output so the 3.3v rail is running lower then it would with the external bay pluged in and the 3.3v rail turned all the way down. but deff an interesting point you got there. just too bad in my case it didnt help me any... i will try your idea just incase but i dont hold my breath...

The support guys over at OCZ had the same problem as you/I. The only thing that got the k8n neo2 to boot again was:

1. Shut off the PSU
2. Disconnect all power cables, all drives, everything...
3. Remove the BIOS battery
4. Shorten the two batterypins with something metal *duh*
5. Wait a couple of minutes
6. Reconnect everything and try.

This worked for me, I got the PowerStream to work with my k8n neo2 again. But it didn't last long, few days later my mobo was totally dead!!

I'm so f***ing mad at MSI not to go public with this problem! But the funniest thing was when I got my Abit AV8. They didn't even tell on their homepage that winchesters wouldn't work with BIOS older than version 1.5. Had to do a hotswap flash with my old NF7S V2. I'm starting to think that the socket 939 is all a joke! I've never ever in my whole life experienced a socket relase with so many problems.

no i didnt touch any chips on the board but why do you ask? i just went out and bought a differnt psu and havent had any troubles since... i figure it has to do with some kind of power fail safe or filter in the psu and probly picking somthing up causeing it not to power on where as this new cheaper psu isnt as sensitive to those kind of things. thats all i can figure it was kinda sucks too cause i want to pick up a 520watt power stream by ocz but id hate to run into the same problems...

Just checked mine and it is @40c or so. Something is wrong with his system. What does that part do? Most of mosfets are "only" rated up to 120-130c.

Well a few have problems out of the blue with PSUs, and someone asked what on the board controls it.
Looks like he has found out the hard way.
Be interesting if the next person that can't get a Neo 2 to boot with a working PSU to have a feel of those chips.

There are a few posts on here and the MSI forums suggesting some Neo 2s have power issues, so it's hardly an isolated case.
