    PWM IC Temp?

How important is the PWM IC temp to system stability? I just noticed that during some times in Prime or 32M SuerPI, the temp goes up quite high, around 53C or so even with fan blowing straight at it. I do not have the jumper in high volt memory setting. The idle temp on it is around 38C or so.

the pwm ic sensor is not at the dimm mosfets but at the cpu mosfets next to the first pcg-slot
according to a_g and rgone of dfi-street u are safe as long as the temp stays below 110°C

though some say that lower temps may help with stability i have the feeling that sub 40°C doesnt make a difference compared to 60°C+

I have a 120MM 86CFM blowing over the PWM area & my temps never go above 43 Degrees, before I put the fan in they were peeking at 68 Degrees during prime, the system is more stable since I put the fan in....

Odd, im running prime right now and the temp is rock solid @ 36C, dont have a fan pointing either.

When you are really pushing these systems that sucker rises like nuts, but they are meant to take high heat, I try and not lot mine go over 55 ish on the x2

I have a delta of about 4-5C between idle temp and load.
Mine never reached 45C since I installed WC in my case even when the outside temp is +30C

On a single core, I find it never gets too hot even running passive....I can make it hit 77-80c when I really crank up the voltage on the x2 though....so I have to cool it basically

This was my experience, too. Even worse, really...mine got into the high 80s and 90s and even caused (I think) my system to shut down sometimes. I am using watercooling on the machine in question so very little airflow around the PWMICs until I actively cooled them.

according to Smart Guardian mine is 40* C but can someone show me exactly where this thing is...

Sorry for the stupid question but i never knew where it is on the DFI's

i have active coolin on the ram's in the form of a 92mm fan w/ bracket so i think it should be helping with the PWM ic

To what I understand the PWM IC is just the heatsinked area on the board is it not? The first heatsinked mosfet on the top right corner and the 3 heatsinked mosfet below it.

It must be under no real load at all when using single core, the difference between idle and load for me is about 1C

Try running 32m PI, I am sure you'll see a bigger difference than that.

does it generate heat?? more so like a "core".. could a passive aluminum heat sink be attached??

i know its real obvious.. but it might be worth a shot.

Hotter PWM area = hotter flowing air to RAM and rest of components... thats how I see it. On X2 for me at least, it is requirement.... never had to bother with venice I am thinking about getting few more 60mm fans (those sunon maglevs... very quiet for CFM they push and size of fan which tend to be loud) instead of 80mm one to direct airflow better (higher static pressure too)

Hmm, lol... Why didn't I think of that before... How is your temp with that sink?

34 idle, low 40s load. Was hitting 50+ before...but my memory is 3.1v and CPU is at 1.64v - I think the added voltages causes it to get hotter.

Afaik pwmic is the area with the 3 heatsinks right from socket. The yellow thing behind upper of them 3 heatsinks in yr pic is the probe that monitors its temp.

pwm isn't an area, its an ic. pulse width modulator.
