What? 70C is standard idle temp for stock GTX 480s... Actually it's been a standard idle temp for high end GPUs on stock cooling for years.

would this card make my computer any faster. i have a older system right now.
specs are AMD FX-60 overclocked to 3.2ghz and i have 4 gigs ram.
8800 gts in sli. every thing is watercooled. right now this system plays all the current games out right now good.
i just wanted to know if i bought a new video card it would bottleneck my system. i just dont want to throw away 2 watercooled 8800gts video cards

wow u got a FX-60 that extremely old and slow in terms of performance to duel cores today the gtx 480 is about 4 times faster than a gtx 9800
what i recommend is that u get the newest cpu for ur socket and watercool the gtx 480 and overclock it which will unleash its potential
i recommend geting a universal waterblock for the GTX 480 so u dont have to get another block if u want to buy a new gpu after a couple of years

why don't you run ungine heaven 2,0 bench at maximum setting and extreme that should be nice.
2k $$ GPU set up must be nice.

Thought i think the fourth 480gtx is a waste for what it gives

You are right, it is a waste for what it gives. I am running more tests, I will have an article up soon with games, benchmarks and everything. This is just pre-testing

    The PCB's are different.. interesting.

and my 480 idles at 41c with 60% fan, and when I leave it on auto fan setting (44%) it idles around 47-49c and thats still decent.

I can explain the 70C idle temps. med1kl is running a 120hz LCD (acer's) and similar to dual monitor mode the card clocks are much much higher at idle ( about 70watts more at stock clocks ) Normal idle clocks should be 50/67.5. When you add a 2nd display or a 120hz monitor the idle clocks go up to 405/924.

Essentially all idle numbers you see in the majority of reviews, be it fan speed / noise, power usage ect are only reflective of 60hz single display performance. The moment a 120hz display or more than 1 display is used, all that goes out the window.

As far as idle temperatures, they don't really matter. The thing that is concerning is the added power usage and resulting fan speed ( assuming the card is aircooled with a pwm controller )

Nice overclocks by the way I'm assuming you have 3d glasses laying around somewhere correct? It would be a shame to have those cards at ones disposel and a 3d capable display and not try it
